Hay, I am in the same boat as you. I did a full rebuild several months ago and had that same noise going on in my motor. I pulled it out and stripped it down to find out what was going on. The head seems to be getting oil but I am not sure if its getting enough. I have an AutoMeter oil pressure gauge that tells me the pressure is a little low but nothing to be worried about but I cant figure out what the problem is. I once rebuilt a DOHC Saturn motor with Scat rods, JE pistons, ARP head studs and main studs and the one thing that people said to do more than anything else was to make sure that the oil pump would have enough suction on the initial startup. The oil pump is just like the one in the KA motor and what I did was to take the cover plate off of the pump on the inside of the timing cover to expose the pump gears. Then I packed the inside of the pump with Vasaline, as much as I could get in there. Then I replaced the cover plate and tightened down the screws making sure that there was locktite on them. I installed everything and put the motor in the car and had no problems with oil pressure or noise. I am surprised that this has not been the case with the KA oil pump. I think I might do that when I re-install the pump, other than that, the only thing else I can think is that your timing chain might be a tooth off and the valves are ticking on the piston head. if you happen to find something different please post it up so that we all can know.
