Hey guys I'm kinda new to posting on this forum but I've finally decided I need help getting my 240 to pass emissions. I have a 1990 S13 with a KA24DE swapped from a 96 S14 and I am going through hell getting it to pass emissions. I have the motor running clean enough to pass the tail-pipe test but I'm running into issues with the visual inspection. The big issue is that my year S13 requires an air pump for the emissions control but the motor that is in the vehicle, and the motors EGR system, are both set-up to run without the air-pump. I took the car into get a form that would allow me to run with the swapped motor, but since it is currently still running the KA24E ECU system and wiring harness it will not fall under the newer motors emissions standards. My next step was to order the air-pump and try my best to make it look like it was connected correctly, I think I did a damn fine job but they noticed the pipe running to the EGR wasn't connected to anything... Mainly because on the newer motor I don't believe there is anything to connect it to. I've run out of ideas to get the car to pass, and since I'm now down to only two cars, I'd like to have the 240 legal so I can drive it while the other one is being wrenched on.

I hope I have all my facts and terms straight and if not try to go easy on me, its been about a year since I've tried getting the car running so I'm a little rusty.

Appreciate the Help-John

try a different garage to inspect it haha

im assuming by the egr pipe not connected to anything you have the egr set up back on the pass side of the motor, and the pipe isnt connected to the exhaust manifold right??

if thats the case, and thats all you need just screw it back into the mani, or get someone to weld it so it looks like its connected...

just a couple taps on the top side and it should look like its connected...

idk i thinik if i was in your situation id honestly just slip the guy 20.00 to not see it..but thats me!

Haha yeah thats what I meant by EGR... I got confused on that one, I was thinking one of the hoses on the air injector ran to the EGR on the back of the intake manifold, forgot it just ran to the intake. And thats a good idea on the header plugs, I'll just get a hold of some seal them up and run the pipes to them, that'd look all legal like.

There's an idea of what I'm working with

Mine passed with the egr pipe rusted off of the exhaust manifold, thus causing a huge exhaust leak. Take it to a different shop and see what they say. try taking off the egr system completely so the pipe doesn't look like it isn't going anywhere, it's not even there to begin with.

The best way to do this I think is to get a ka24de ecu and properly convert your car from obd1 to obd2 emissions componets which is what your motor uses...might cost more money but your swap will be 100% legal and it will remove this headache and prevent you from trying to ghetto rig crap together.

try an s13 de ecu its still obd1 and wont throw codes like an obd2 and tuning will be easier if you ever turbo it.
