I know a lot of people have talked about this but i just want a definitive answer. I have a 93 ka and i have an extra set of cams. How can i tell which cam was the exhaust cam and can i just drop it in in place of the intake and take it 4 teeth counterclockwise or do i have to get it repinned?

Nick

Its not worth it with a S13 motor, you get like 2-3 hp at the crank.

If you swapped the S14 intake manifold and head you may get 10-15, though nobady has actually measured the increase.

Intake is on the left (passenger side), and is marked with orange paint. The exhaust is on the right, and is marked with green paint.

I wouldn't go through the time (and possible risk) over that small of a power increase. Save up some $$ and get a set of something like JWT or PDM cams.

I never heard gains of the s14 mani.Though it just had a couple extra holes for emissions.

There are slight gains because the S14 upper manifold doesn't have secondary butterfly valves, so you'd get the same gains as you would from removing them on an S13.

No, it's run off the upper chain idler sprocket.

I can vouch for the manifold increase. I removed the butterflys when I rebuilt my 91 DE and even my girl friend (who didn't know i did anything) said "the cars alot faster now".

ah, BUT altima ka24de's distributor is run by the exhaust cam, so no luck if your looking for 248's in an altima... and you dont need to repin them, BUT its almost not even worth the time. i have a 248/248 setup, not a big difference. but ive had had my knock sensor busted since long before the swap... that will make a bigger difference then my cam swap

do you need new lifters/shims for the cam install? Something tells me the surfaces won't mate unless you replace at least one of the surfaces...

you do not need new lifters/shims for a cam swap... i put dual exhaust cams (248/248) in my s14 and i gained a bit more top end. the reason why you gain more hp with s13 cams in a s14 is because the s14 has a more agressive ecu and maf. be prepared to loose some LOW end with dual exhaust cams. i felt like i lost a good 10ft lbs of torque down low till about 4k rpm
