I just got a 1992 240SX 5 sp in on trade. It came in with the engine in pieces. I have been told that it spun a rod bearing. In looking over the engine, I can confirm this. Judging by the damage, I get the feeling I'd be better off either finding a new crank and connecting rod, or just a whole running engine.
The problem is that I'm having very little luck finding crankshafts or engines for a decent price. It seems that as soon as you mention it's for a 240, the part is made of solid gold. So, this brings to mind a few questions. I have an ragged out beat up old Hardbody with the Z24 engine. Can I use this engine? Are there any other Nissan cars or trucks out there that have interchangeable bottom ends? Any of the FWD cars or automatic cars? I'm a Nissan newbie at this point, so I'd appreciate any insight you all can provide.
Another question I have is in regards to rebuilding the engine. Am I better off rebuilding what's left of the engine I have, or trying to find a complete engine that either runs or needs to be rebuilt? I've heard that these engines have bad seals and leak oil a lot. Is this true?
