Alright what's up again people. So this may sound very noobish however I must know a couple things. First off the hose which I circled black always comes loose. What is that connected to? I feel like it may be important. I know the one connecting to the valve and ecu box are needed but what about the other one which is white?

Also does anyone know the average size cone filter 2.75 or 3"? I want to get a K&N to replace the cheap ebay filter I currently have on.

Any feedback appreciated.

Black is most likely the quieting box that's mounted beside the rad. Not needed but would have to cap it. Or buy some hose clamps, should have used your stock ones on all of those hoses.

Wow, so cold air intakes are pretty much a waste of money. I'm glad I stuck with just purchasing a lifetime K&N drop in filter for my Celica. Probably will do the same for my 240 in that case..Thanks for the vid..

LOL indeed. The MCM guys may be a trifle unhinged, but it's cool when they do stuff like this and really test things to the point of sillyness, and show that nope, no difference, sometimes worse. I also liked the ebay electric inline supercharger fan test they did - ended with electric leaf blowers :rotfl Also nice is that intermixed with the sillyness are actual facts and science and stuff too. Like why a good tune matters and why dyno time is important for that, or why you can't just bolt on a turbo and go do mad skidz.

OP, even with the CAI, it might be worth the while to try to keep the original airbox, and use an oem style K&N drop in like ullusion mentioned.

The only difference I noticed with my CAI was the initial sound when you start to hit the gas pedal. Other than that it's pretty much just whatever filter you have is what makes the difference. KA-T is the way to go though!

The only problem I have with that MCM episode is that they used a turbo car. A cold air intake isn't going to do jack on a car that has an intercooler. The intake piping pretty much just dictates how much restriction there is on the turbo inlet.

I could be wrong, but thats how I see it.

That looks a bit small, but like it's in the right place to be the resonating/silencing bottle thing mentioned.

The pipe being the same size as the throttle can't HURT too much, even though the MAF is a bit smaller anyway.... but the main thing I noticed with my intake is the sound. WOT makes quite a bit more noise (obviously from the engine bay, not the exhaust) of a different type, and with a pod filter instead of an airbox, you can hear a rushing/sucking noise at high throttle settings.

Also, there's no proper way to mount it, and I just have the filter laid in the bottom half of the airbox, which is still mounted. It would be a lot more trouble than it's worth for a cheap intake, to actually make brackets or anything. I've considered putting the airbox/filter back in, but leaving the pipe.... or even going back to stock. At some point I'll probably put the box back and leave the pipe, I think.

It's also frustrating that the hose bungs are not in the right places, and it looks like you have about the same one I do. And I had to bend the screw mounting tab about 30 degrees to put it in.

What I'm saying is, cut off the bung for the resonator bottle on your stock intake, cut a piece from the bottle to epoxy over it as a patch, and reuse any of the new hoses or couplings that you can, on the stock intake.
