I took the upper chain guide off a couple weeks ago, and put it back together without a problem. Was still having the rattle so I tackled the lower chain guide, and now it won't start.

Car cranks indefinitely, no spark or anything. For the first few times I had forgotten the center plug on the dizzy and have since hooked that back up, still the same no-start situation. I have installed brand new spark plugs and plug wires. I have re-adjusted it for TDC several times, so I do not believe it to be a timing issue. It won't even fire in the first place and idle so I can adjust timing. I checked fuses etc. If I pull the electronic plug off the dizzy it does the same thing, if I pull the EGI and EGI pump fuses/relays it does the same thing. I believe this to be a distributor issue but before I go spending money on one, what do you guys think?

Considering my history with cars, I bet I am severely overlooking something.

I had the battery unplugged for a few days while doing this, I have the spark plug wires hooked up to the dizzy in the right place...

Yes it ran before I removed the upper chain guide, and ran after I removed it. I drove it for a week with only the upper chain guide removed and still had a rattle, so I took the rest of it apart for the lower chain guide. After putting it back together, it now won't start

Apparently no spark. All wires plugged in. Getting fuel. I have 3 sets of sparkies on hand and 2 sets of spark plug wires and none of them fire.

Nevermind that, I'm getting spark and fuel. It turns like it's going to start, cranking, but not firing...

Are you sure it's not the timing?

Put it back to TDC and check where the dizzy rotor is on. It should be on CYl# 1

Well I'll be *******

I took off the dizzy and it was lined up with #4....

Confusing. However, thinking back, it's possible I didn't connect the center plug until after my last TDC setting, so that is probably what caused it. Thanks guys.
