I know this discussion is old probly, And I searched it like crazy. ALL I GET are different answers from different people.I read that s14 cams out of a de are something like 207/210 and that s13 des were 240/248 and that you can repin another exaust to run 248/248...

Im rebuilding a 96 ka and swapping it into a 89 body. I picked up a set of 91 cams for cheap.. they are supposed to be 240/248 right?

The pdm page for cams says that stock s13 was 207 as well....And I have seen reputable members claim that all de cams are the same...Anyone know for sure??

KA24DE cams specs:

'91 - Early'93 = 240/248Late '93 - '98 = 232/232

The specs you saw on the PDM webpage CANNOT be compared to the above #s...they were not taken at the same lift.

Another example...the JWT cams are advertised as 275/275...but when measured as the stock ones are, they come out to 256/256.

That is fact, no guesswork involved.

Thank you so much Brian. Very much appriciated.

So my only question is.. how much difference is there really between 232, 240ish, and 256?

S13 cams in an S14 will push the whole HP and TQ curves over to the right ~500rpms...and since HP is just a mathematical representation of TQ+RPM...if you move the TQ band into higher RPMs, you get more HP.

HP = [ (TQ+RPM) / 5250 ]

So even if you can make the same TQ at 500 higher RPM...you get more HP:

A stock S14 makes peak HP (125rwhp) at ~5700rpm. TQ at that point is only ~115rwtq.

Move that up to ~6200rpm...and at the same 115ft/lbs of TQ, you have 135rwhp.

Same EXACT power curve, just moved up in the revs a little.

...

In reality, you gain about ~8rwhp form S13 cams in an S14.

Now, look at the JWT cams, and it makes peak HP at ~6700...so the increase should be similar...but in reality, it's probably ~15rwhp more than the stock S14 cams, but there is a tradeoff for low-end. Not much, but it's present.

Hope that helps.

You can tell which cams you have by the intake manifold...if you have the secondary butterflies in you intake manifold, you have the good cams (240/248)

If you have a late '93 or '94 Vert, with NO secondary butterflies in the intake mani...you have the S14 (232/232) cams.

He's right, I have the JWT cams in my s14. And it does lose power in the low rpm range. But when it hits about 4k it really takes off!

I'm a fan of the 248 248 cam set. I bought a set from Nissan three years ago and they make more power in the entire power band than the stock 232 set wich i believe were made for emissions reasons only.

yea i put 248/248 s13 cams into my car.. with the other exhaust cam bein 4 pins to the left like the trick was. really nice now, after 4000 its an amazing difference, below that it lost a bit of power but thats ok its still got enough to cruise in 5th at 40mph

I wish they had COMPLETE specs. I want duration at .050 and lift. All I see is advertised duration. You seen the whole info somewhere else?
