So i have a stock 1992 240sx Hatchback. I just blew a head gasket on it and am currently waiting to hear back from the shop if the engine head is cracked. Regardless of whether it is cracked or not, i decided to take this opportunity to finally swap an SR20det into it. The shop I'm using locates the motor for us along with everything else needed. I've been doing some research but was wondering if using a blacktop S13 SR20 was really worth the extra cost. Even more so, i was wondering if the S14 SR20 is worth the extra cash. And if anyone who has done this could give me a ballpark estimate of the price out the door. One last thing, since I will be selling my KA and everything being replaced, how much i would be able to sell the various parts for. Any help would be greatly appreciated, still kind of a noob trying to learn as much as i can on my first real build. Thanks!

Black tops are newer engines so theyre less likely to have as many mileage or have been sitting longer than a red top. But just because it's newer doesn't mean it isn't sour. Personal preference really. I don't know much about SRs but I'd personally would skip over the s14 and go for the s15. As for the ka, you could probably sell the whole thing for a whopping 500. 1 sale, 1 transaction, and you won't have to worry about misc parts.

ok well thanks for the info. The only thing is is to swap an s15 motor the motor/transmission etc alone is upwards of 3500 while the s14 is roughly 22-2400. Still thinking and researching it, and if anyone knows of anywhere to get a reliable motor it would help me out a lot in case i go with a rival shop. And you think roughly 500 for motor, transmission, maf, etc all that s***?

Hate to be that guy....But this has been covered MANY MANY times, its prob the most asked question on this forum. Search man, it will give you everything you need to make the choice yourself....Its all personal preference, and money you have.
