Well, i bought my 240sx about two months ago, and she unfortunatly developed a rod knock last week. Well after taking the block to my machineist, he told me that the crank and rods were bent beyond repair. . So now i face some options,

A) buy a junk yard ka and rebuild to turbo later on

B) buy a rebuild ka to turbo later

C) buy sr20det

D) any other options?

What do you think would be the best choice? price being a large issue, i have about 3 grand at the moment. thanks in advance~mike

You could try a motor from this sponsor. zerothread?id=197925 Not bad prices. OR You could go LSx. haha.

since you have 3k, i would say go sr20. i'm a ka-t guy but i really like sr's also.i would say it's the best bang for the buck. you get a running engine and more power.if your engine wasn't blown, i would go ka-t.to go ka-t at this point would most likely be more money.

cheapest thing would probably be to buy a ka from someone on here who pulled it out to swap in a rb or sr or something of the sort...but if it were me..i'd go sr...you can get an sr running for 3grand if you install it yourself that is

Well im kind of scared of the sr, i know it won't be a problem installing it mechanically, its the electronics im 'ify' on. from you past expriances, have any of you heard anything on how the installation of the harnesses go. that and emissions and reliability lean me to sticking with a ka and turboing later on. thank you for the advice so far.

dude the wiring on an sr takes all of 20-30 minutes tops if you've looked HT's diagrams over.

Dunno about reliability and passing emissions with the KA or the SR. Plenty of fools blowing both of them up so reliability I'd say depends on you, not so much the engine anymore... Emissions ain't bad on an SR. Even in CA, you can pass an sr as long as you've got someone to overlook the visual inspection. NOx will be high but it's possible to pass even in CA. If it passes the sniffer in CA, I'm sure it'll pass in the rest of the US.

If time is a factor and you need the carin running condition again quickly I would just find a running ka24 and put it in but the problem with that (ifyou want to tubo later on) is that if you wanna run a boat load of boost, you're gonn have to pull the motor again later on and tear it down so you can raplace the internals with higher quality stuff. S if you've got the money I would just start off with an Sr20det. It is entirely up to you.

As far as reliability goes it depends on how it is driven. But if you know anything about tubro cars you should know to change the oil a lot more often as the heat that they are subjected to breaks the oil down more quickly.

You can pickup a used KA for 300-400 bucks. Go get one and pop her in there... IT takes about 5 hours to remove your old engine completely and about 4 to get another one in there.

If you want to spend a bit, you could do an LS1 swap-in, which is becoming very affordable now and is completely street legal!

i would still say go sr... its just as easy as dropping in a ka into your car.. more power.. more potential!

amy friends pulled 331whp with turbo upgrade... ECU exhaust etc etc the minor **** on a dyno... to do that with a ka im assuming u would have to change some internals for sure!
