There seems to be a lot of BS information about what alternator will work, which parts will swap etc. My stock alternator went bad on my rb20 swap which was in my 1995 s14. I could have done the Quest but this was easier. I happened to still have the KA24de alternator and after reading on this and other forums I decided to see if I could swap parts into the rb20 alternator from the KA24de one. After getting them apart my stock RB20 one was shot. Bearings were bad, brushes worn and major wear on other rotating parts. The parts from the KA24DE one will not swap in either. Bearings are different sizes, plug is in different spot, and they just don't fit together period.

I then put them back together and tried to fit the KA24DE one on and was surprised it was just off by a little.

After that I took it off and marked where I needed to drill/slot bracket.

here is the bracket drilled/slotted out.

Once it was on it fit great but needed some more adjust-ability. The bracket was hitting the alternator and wouldn't slide freely. I could have ground down a little of the alternator but chose to grind down bracket instead as seen below. Image

Below is final fit . The large bolt holding the rb20 alternator to the engine was too short. I still had the KA24DE one so I tried and it fit. The only issue I had was that the bolt had a flat washer and a lock washer on it. With both on it looked like the alternator belt could touch the bolt. The lock washer was totally flat anyway so I took some channel locks and pulled it off of the bolt. Once everything was tight I checked clearance of belt hooked up wire and started it up. Ran great checked voltage and charging great as well.
