My question is simple. For those of you who have done this swap I was curious as to how you mounted the tranny (240SX 5-speed) to the tunnel.

First I used the Datsun mount which bolted right to the tranny but the crossmember was a good 3-4" from the factory bolt holes in the Datsun and I had to flip the crossmember around backwards to get even 2 of the bolt holes lined up with the crossmember holes.

Then I tried the removing the Datsun mount altogether and made longer bolts with the flat head to mount the crossmember directly to the transmission to get the 2 holes that DID line up closer to each other. I then used large nuts as spacers in between the car holes and the crossmember. Still 2" away and the car drove like a go-kart... vibration-wise.

My next idea includes using the 240SX mount with the 240SX crossmember center, cut off the ends of the 240SX crossmember (as they are not symmetrical) and weld on the Datsun crossmember's wings. I know if I do a straight weld that it will still be a few inches from the car so I am planning on welding a support on each end to bring the wings closer to the car. If I try this and it doesn't work I'll have to find another crossmember.

So far I have spent $207 on this swap (electric push fans and shortening the driveshaft 8") so obviously I don't want to "cheat" and buy a custom crossmember.

So let me know how you did it, even if you DID buy the custom one.

Hi,I used the rubber mount that was on the KA tranny. Then I built a mount to fit up to the original 510 holes. I too was on a budget and giving someone $70 ~$100 bucks for a mount seemed just a little too much. I used some rectangle plates about 4" wide by 6" long. I did trim them down a bit but I don't remember how much. I put two holes in them to match the original 510 mounting holes and semi bolted them up in place. I then took some 1-1/2" "U" channel (fits right up in the stock rubber mount) and cut a couple of notches and bent it to fit up to the plates. Then welded the whole mess together. I'm posting some pics hopefully you can see what I did. The pictures aren't great cause I couldn't get far enough up under the car.

Here's a picture of the material. I shouldn't post pictures after drinking. I forgot to shrink them a little and rotate then so you don't have to look at them upside down to figure them out. Oh well hope they help.

Actually I'll be upside down and under the 510 when I'm welding so it works out fine.
