ka24 transmission slips

its a 89 manual fastback, basically in 4th and 5th gear @ 4000 rpm it slips and makes me lose power. ( as if i went into neutral )

then i have to pump the clutch once or twice and its gets back in! what is wrong with my transmission?

just 4th and 5th?

sounds more like if your clutch is starting to go, or you are hitting rpm/speed limiter(5th gear)

i have also had it happen in 3rd past 5000 rpm

Sounds like your clutch is slipping. I just don't understand what you're saying in that last part of your first post.

well when i drive in 4th or 5th gear , usually the freeway as soon as i hit 4-5000rpm my transmission slips out of gear and goes to neutral.

then if i press the clutch pedal down once it goes back into the gear!
