ka24/sr20 transmission; are they interchangable?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

well, i've heard everything on this one. A.) yes! the ka and sr20 do share the same transmission (along with some other motors). B.) No, something about the size and mounting of the clutch (meaning a new one would be needed). The reason i'm asking, the transmission on my KA is dying. a lot of bearing noise. if a SR20 will fit, it will help me with shopping options. Any help would be really appreciated here. thanks.

the difference is in the bellhousing. if you remove your KA bellhousing and put it on the SR transmission it will work. same goes for the CA transmission.

Yes, internals are the same. Just need to swap bellhousings to get it to work.

I dont think you should of bought a sr transmission b/c the ka and sr have the same internals (atleast i think so right?) and the sr bellhousing wont fit on the KA.

yeah, they do have the same internals. by swapping the bellhousings on the two trannys, you can make it fit. the reason for buying a SR20 transmission is b/c no one locally has a manual transmission for the ka, and if i wanted to buy one off ebay, i'd have to get a motor and everything with it. i could have waited around to see if one might have popped up, but i don't have a clue how long my transmission is going to last. this is going to be a fun project!

People tell me that the KA transmission is more robust than the SR transmission even though all the gears are of the same exact ratios.

If you are using a SR, I was told you should just get a bellhousing for SR and use the KA everything else.

Also, the speed sensor might not work depending on what year the car is.

Out of curiosity s13sucksalot... were you pissed off at your car when you registered or something?

I figured if I was going to hijack and ask it may as well be your thread

yes actually, i was. i had been working on replacing my head gasket for... oh... about 2 weeks. i had finally gotten the car running, but it kept over-heating. finally solved the problem by dislodging some junk in the water jacket in the block... anyhow, now you know!
