So I've been checking out YouTube for some drifting vids of ka 240's and alot of other videos have something along the lines of "killing a ka24e" (sohc) and comments of burnout videos where the motor bounces off the rev-limiter say something like "suprised it didn't blow up" I was wondering. Is "blowing up" common for ka24e's? And what about ka24de's?I'm kinda freaking out about it.

Hmmm. There is a whole forum dedicated to the wonderful engine that is the KA. Thats where this thread should be. I have a 150,000 mile KA24E and 245,000 mile KA24DE that both recieve more abuse than an innocent stock engine should, and they are still trucking strong. They were probably surprised it didn't blow because they were being retarded and bouncing it off the rev limiter which isn't good for any engine; trying to get it to blow i guess? IMO the KA is very durable and reliable and also very easy to work on. I feel like crap pulling it out for my SR20 i hope i fall in love with the SR once i get it running.

These motors don't blow up easy. Most blown HG could have probably been prevented with better maintenance.

I like them.

I've had nothing but problems, even after a professional rebuild. I have no experience with anything else, so I don't know if SR/RB sucks just as bad. My old KA was alright...

That makes me feel alot better, thanks. I've been thinkin wide open throttle bouncing off the rev limited can't be good. Your trying to push the enine and the computers trying to shut the injectors periodically. Seems like a clash of things trying to happen. Hydraulic compression comes to mind when I think about it lol.

the ka24e in my car now was destroyed when i got it...2 cylinders had been sitting full of water for like 2 months, the walls were rusted, galleys were clogged...i mean it was the worst looking motor ive ever wrenched on.i said screw it lets see what she does, i got some q-tips, brake cleaner, and a flexible razor blade...scraped, cleaned and wiped for a hot minute, used new head gasket and a few others, torqued it proper then re checked.been kicking a** for 30,000 since.dont believe the hype, kae's are tough as nails.
