Hey all, new to this site. I'm regular to Datsun720 member site. I am (or was untill my 2001 piece of crap sentra se) a life time Nissan fan. I currently have a 95 240SXse (KA24DE) and an 81 King cab 2wd. Original owners of both. The king cab has a z22 which is modified to about 130 hp. Not enough hp for me. Many have said the KA24E and DE are nearly swaps for the Z22. Same clutch, transmission pattern and size. Only need new motor mounts. Has anybody compared the two? I'm thinking of a light turbo (6lbs) KA swap in the truck. 175rwp would be great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Packy

I'm not sure what kind of fabrication it would need but I believe that swap would be simple up to the wiring part... and for the power you could either go turbo or find a DE and swap in E pistons to bump the compression to the 11:1 range. That should net you about 170-180ish.

The KA24 is a great engine, search around this forum and the KA-T forum and you are sure to find what you're looking for. (little flashing button, top right)

Glad to be of service!

One of our members, Bandit240, has two 620 trucks (1978 and 79). He could probably help you out.

Sounds like a good plan though. 175 whp is not much for a KA-T. The typical t3/t4 setup hits 240-250whp at 7-8psi. You could use a T3 from a 84-88 300zx. Without an intercooler, I think you could hit 175whp at 5-6psi. Stock power with intake, header, and exhaust is about 130whp.

Go with sohc ka24e head. 89-90 240, 90-94 truck (non bigport) or 89-92 stanza will also work just fine in rwd form.

Bolts right up to your z22 block, front cover included. Use the z22 headbolts and timing chain/gears. This allows you got keep that oem cam timing adjustment (3 setting) with the stout dual chain.

Stock bore on the 22 is 87mm and it can be bored to 89mm with ease. I would suggest you keep the bore at least 88mm when using the ka 2.4l head to keep the valves away from the cylinder and unshrouded. Use z24 or ka24e headgasket with larger bore.

You can utilize the sohc 240sx rwd intake manifold and exhaust of your choice, your set, you can pull it off nice and cheap.

To do a dohc ka24de head conversion much more work is required, front cover fitment, custom headbolts etc etc.. If your going turbo and really want the dohc just get the whole ka24de longblock.
