Okay,

I have been thinking of rad and flow, because of my recent need to get cooler issues.. Core thickness of my rad is fine, surface space is limited to the opening. But would a SR rad cool better?

I ask because in a vertical flow KA radiator (OE, Mishimoto, Koyo, Etc) the inlet and outlet are on the same side, but opposite on the SR. Granted the system is under pressure, but I picture the heat flow better in a SR radiator because of the distance between in and out.

Is there any merit to this theory or no. Its a pressurized system.

My shi**y pics for example. viewing from the engine sideKASR

I plan to use my temp gun and see, maybe use the Flir Camera if I can get my hands on it.

I've thought about this before myself, I think it makes perfect sense myself.... but I'll wait til someone else chimes in.

Yeah I dunno It seem to make sense to me... I may ditch the rad I got now and go with an SR type. Just would have to make a new intake.

yeah right ... the heat transfer on coolant in not like that i that case the perfect arrangement for inlet and outlet you have to put the top inlet on the middle of the radiator and the outlet on teh middel of the bottomdude didn't watched one like that,do you?

What are you trying to say? Reading that is painful.

the flow is not downwards..the flow is top to bottom and right to left throu 2 cores..that means that the water/coolant circulates right to left sa it filters down then does it all over again befor exiting the radiator...

now...your thinking another one might solve your issue..if its a 2 core..no it wont..what you need is a 3 or 4 core to handle all the mods you may have..the more circulation the coolant has to go throu before re-entering the block..the cooler it is..

good luck.

here is how i look at it . . . stuff in japan (like the sr) is a lot better than usdm stuff - use the sr radiator. seems like a much better design and yet another design that nissan held back on when bringing their ideas to the states.

usdm stuff - watered down japan stuffjdm stuff - built better

ka - truck motorsr - smooth reving turbo motor

(seems obvious to me how the us market gets shafted )))

Wow that was off topic......

But I know the owner of Mishimoto and he is going to send me some deffinite answers. But his SR radiators are 1/4 inch thicker then the KA which is kinda odd.

I may go with another brands 3 row.

tha has to be one of the most ignorant retarded statements ive read in atleast a week. uber dumb. i wish i can reclaim the brain cells that i lost reading that. OP, i would like to see what you get back from the owner, i think you may be on to something, but im not that familiar with fluid dynamics to say.

good point on the cross flow of the rad. thought about this a few times for my rb, but switched to a vmount, its runnign allot cooler w/o the i/c in the way. i honestly dont thing a 1 1/2 inch hose will flow throught the first 10-20 fins in a rad, the coolant is forced to go thru most of the fins in the rad core

OK So heat transfers in water surprisingly well Because the cooling system is under pressure this also aids in this. However, all crack pot theories aside, there is only one way to truly answer this question. Get a temperature gauge or gun, measure the heat on the radiator on the right side, then on the left side. Do this on both the KA radiator, and I am guessing the temperature will be very close. I'd test mine but my tempature tester just broke.

Yes, Nissan purposely made an inferior radiator because they hate America.Maybe the radiator is designed differently because it has a completely different motor with different positions on the inlet and outlet hoses?

Truck motor? And why do you say that? Is it because the motor was designed and built for Nissan's sports car (89) and THEN it was put in a truck the next model year (90)?
