I see its a 1991 how many miles, oil on the plugs... has the car been smoking (blueish) If so I think the rings would be worn down. You might want to test the compression on her. Check the other fluids to for levels and mix, make sure theres no coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, ect. If that all good, i might try a good engine flush, and new plugs again and see how it is. If the compression is low, try some "restore additive" to the oil.

hey im sorry to hear about your engine. oil on the plugs would definately cause your engine to bog down. oil could be caused by bad valve seals or excessive blow by. is there any oil in the intake tube? I have a ka24de for sale on ebay just pulled it out a couple days ago. used head and new gasket 174,000 on bottom end no smoke, runs great, good oil pressure(80psi@3000rpm) it listed under 93 240sx engine

Well don't go buying motors just yet. Find the problem and see if you can get by with it first.

Check the oil, look for coolant and fuel. If its only oil , Clean IAC valve, clean intake and throttle body, flush engine, replace fuel filter, replace oil and filter use the restore stuff, check coolant, replace plugs, cap and rotor.

That restore stuff really can help a worn engine.

well the engine had a complete tear down last year has about 15000 miles on it now so i dont think it would be rings or anything ill check the intake tube today to see if there is oil but i changed the plugs already and ordered a new coil and valve cover gasket set if anything it could be a bad seal on the valve cover ill try this stuff out and let you all know if it works im buying a sr20 soon anyways but its my DD

Just remember that the "restore stuff" is at best a temporary fix. The best is to find the cause of the problem (valve seals, rings etc) and only use additives until you can properly fix the engine.

It can appear to work wonders but it is not a repair only a cover-up.

So, was there oil in the spark plug well(the place where the spark plug goes) or was the oil only on the tips of the plugs?

Check for vacuum leaks as well. Valve cover gasket will fix it if there is oil on top of the plugs before you pull them, if not it is almost surely valve seals.

Why would a valve seal have anything to do with oil getting on the plugs?

Because the valve stem seal keeps oil from dripping down the valves?

All 4 valve seals going at the same time though? Maybe if the engine had been repeatedly overheated, but that sounds kinda unlikely.

EDIT - Eh, meant all 4 cylinders valve seals, not 4 seals.

A valve seal is a part that is constantly wearing. so if one is old and worn enough to leak oil past it why wouldent the other 15 seals leak (not 4)????

He said the engine was torn down a while ago, so maybe the valve cover gasket and seals around the plugs weren't replaced at the time.

I had a similar issue on my s14. I fixed the gasket problem and no more oil. My car was still falling on it's face. I would check your mafs and wiring next, then check your knock sensor. Both will make the car run like your describing and the knock sensor will pull timing as a result of being bad or as a result of the mafs being bad.

Aside from the oil problem, you could try raising the idle to above where it might stall out and check timing as well...do that after the seals
