1989 240sx. Hey i'm hearing a very slight metal clicking sound comming from my engine. you can only hear it if the hood is open and you listen closely. I know the 240 has an issue with the timeing chain and i'm not sure if that's what the noise could be. The car runs super smooth so it does not make sence, just trying to be careful I don't want to ruin any valves. Any advice? should I get it checked?

when the car warms up dose it sound like it needs a valve adjustment. If so it is probaly the chain. Is it SOHC or DOHC? it will run smooth even if the chain is the problem i dorve my car 26 miles every day to work at 90+ MPH and with no sound until i Stopped at the exit ramp and heard a raddling noise.

if you have to open the hood and listen closely, its probably just your injectors doing what they do best. KA injectors are louder than most. When ur timing chain starts its rattling thing, most don't notice a performance drop because the chain doesnt lose tension, its just rubbing on the cover. I've found that you can put a fair amount of miles on the engine (i drove mine 20000 miles before it ate thru) without performance issues, because the chain doesn't gain enough slack without the broken guide to jump time any. I don't recommend waiting that long to fix the broke guide/rattle issue, because it wears right over the port for the water pump and will start dumping water in the oil, which will destroy your motor.
