Hey guys, I am working a friend of mine on making a Nissan 240SX into a track car using the KA-T platform. I was wondering what are some thins that we will have to look out for during the build and how much abuse do you think that the KA-T can take? The car will not be street legal, it will be a track car only so we want lots of power but it has to be able to take a beating for extended amounts of time. We are on a budget and will be trying to do as much of the work ourselves as possible so any tips on cheap and quality performance parts would be appreciated. TIA-Hell Ride.

There is a famous saying and it goes like this:

Fast, Cheap, Reliable. Pick two.

With that being said, I would put your money into making things strong. The rods, pistons, rings, gaskets, and the valve train. Makes those strong and car will last awhile. I really can't point you to actually parts more than just clicking the ads that are on the side and top of this page. I'm sure that there are other guys on this forum that can guide you better than me and give you better information other than saying 'Click the sticky' or 'Search.'

okay, i read the thread and after reading that, I have more questions. He mentioned changing spark plugs and the cooling system needs to be checked, well I was wondering, after changing the spark plugs in anticipation of going turbo, is it safe to run the car on the altered setup? The track that the car will see most of the action at is somewhere where we have never been before so I'm sure that we will be racing the car in stock form to get some decent experience first.

I would keep the stock plugs till you modify. Kepp it running the best, cooling system should only help!

I knew that the cooling system wont do anything bad but I was wondering about the plugs. I was just thinking that if I needed them then I could just put them in, I guess I can always buy them and put them on the shelf until the setup is bought. The KA-T is one of the many platforms we are considering right now. We are not just looking at Nissan but have narrowed it down to either the KA or a 1JZ swap Mark III Supra.
