So, I was originally going to have some money to spend on a new paint job this Spring, but it occurred to me...what's more important, more power or shiny paint?

The answer is obvious...

Questions:

1) Barring possible reliability issues with the manifold, what do you think of an S14 T28 turbo on an SSAutochrome bottom mount manifold?

I'd like to go bottom mount for a variety of reasons, two of which are subtlety and availability of aftermarket SR parts.

2) I know the T28 is a small turbo compared to what others are using on the KA. My power goals are quite modest. I'd like to be able to make around 230hp at the wheels with reasonably quick spool up. Would a T28 be able to do this on a KA without raising the boost too high?

3) If I run a S14 T28 and the SSAutochrome bottom mount, will I be able to make use of aftermarket SR parts, such as hot pipes and intercooler kits? I'm assuming this is a "yes", since it's the same turbo in the same place.

Thanks, guys. As you can see, I'm not trying to build a 350hp street monster. I just want a car that has fairly linear and reasonably modest power.

Edit: I spelled "subtlety" wrong, also are the S14 T28's internally wastegated?

1) i am personally going to be using a t25 that came off of a s13 SR. i think that would be cool. im also wondering how the t28 will act on ka.

2) for the power level that your looking for .. i think the T28 is a great choice.

3) i think you will be able to because it would place the turbo in the same exact location as the SR.

So, here's a thought. The Dodge SRT-4 is a 2.4L engine that puts down about 230hp using a Mitsubishi TD04LR-16Gk. Unfortunately, I don't really know much about Mitsu turbochargers and couldn't find compressor maps for it. Hell, couldn't even find the maps for a T28.

It's certainly by no means a large turbo, and the SRT-4 is pushing 14psi to make that 230hp.

As for the rest (or part of my setup) that I plan on acquiring:

370cc injectors from an SR (not sure if this will be sufficient)good old 255lph Walbro fuel pumpstock MAF or perhaps Z32?Greddy Type S BOV

Not too sure about the intercooler yet. I'd like to go with JWT or possibly even Scott's new KA tune as far as the ECU goes.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Do you see any fitment issues with the SSAutochrome bottom mount manifold and an S15 T28 turbo?

I'm not crazy about the internal wastegate, but do you think this turbo would supply the relatively linear power delivery and power goals of ~230hp at the wheels?

Would my goals be accomplished cheaper and easier with a different setup?

Yeah, I've seen that thread and know that kamikazestorm is looking at a similar setup.

I looked at the compressor maps for the T25, and it just seems like it's too small. Then again, like someone mentioned, Aceinhole made HUGE numbers with a T25 on a KA.

If I can use an SR FMIC, an SR hot pipe, a Greddy or HKS BOV (is the HKS really that much better?) and an HKS wastegate actuator (keeping the internal wastegate in the T25) that would be great.

I'd like to also get some used 370cc SR injectors, get 'em flowmatched and blueprinted and keep the stock MAF. Top it all off with a Walbro fuel pump.

Plumbing oil and water lines shouldn't be too tough. I guess I'd have to run a restrictor for the oil line to the turbo.

Would like to run either a JWT ECU, maybe something else.

I think the benefit to the T25 and the SSA manifold is that both are cheap. If I blow up either one, I can easily replace it. For what it's worth, I've heard the bottom mount SSA manifolds are pretty decent.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Anyone who has anything to add, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Kamikaze (or anyone really), hit me up on AIM BadMojo2390 if you want to discuss this or anything else.
