Hello, I have always been a fan of 240sx's and i am soon to purchase one...Im just wondering if a sr20det swap is absolutely needed for more horsepower.....Has anyone pulled 350+ hp out of a Ka???If so how much??Is it possible because i really dont want to do an engine swap if it is unnessicary.....Thank you

WOW!! newbie you really need to search around. there at 500+ hp ka's being built. SR'S are overrated and are all about being JDM tight yo. the ka is an awsome motor the build. some ka's have been able to produce 300 hp on just stock internals. just remember that HP costs money. its all about how much you are willing to spend.

No, you definatly need a SR20 to go fast, the KA just cant do it.

i'd say you have just about all the feedback you need on this thread but i just want to say the sr is not overrated... it all depends on what your target horsepower is but in the end for big powe(r if you are planning on building either engine) you will probably be looking to spend somewhat comparable figures. i mean you can of course buy second hand parts and ss autochrome stuff and cut corners to save a few bucks here and there with the ka-t but you're going to end up spending money on the ka for little things (that really add up to a bunch of money). i guess it depends on which kit you go with or if you buld your own or whatever.... the sr comes equipped but you have to get lucky to get a really good sr that hasn't been abused... my brother got lucky (or so it seems right now), and so we spent comparable numbers... (he did the sr swap and i have a ka-t) but for those comparable expense numbers my car is faster on 7 psi... when we both start upgrading for bigger numbers though they will be comparably fast and comparably expensive.

in short: BOTH engines are fully capable of big power and you need to do a lot of searching and learning... just make sure you have the money for your target horsepower and then do whatever the hell you want because either way you'll have a badass car.

Hey guys thanks for all the help....I know that topic has been discussed thousands and thousands of times but i was just searching in all the wrong places and didnt really have time to search.....But one more thing.....If i stick with stock and turbo it....If i buy a turbo kit like these http://www.240sxmotoring.com/ka24de.html do i need anything else than what i buy in that kit????Because i really want to stick with stock and turbo it and see what i can do but i dont want to hassle to much with buying all a ton of parts just to install a turbo....So if thats all there im gonna go with the KA.....Well thanx for the replies.....Thanks for all the help....KA's all the way!!

Those kits should have everything you need to turbo the car at a basic beginner level. Kits are good for people who dont want to source everything so it looks like you can benefit from it. Also search into Boostdesigns.com turbo kit, there is alot of people running that lately, I have no personal experiance with them so do you research.

The stage 3 kit includes internals. I would definitely go with their rebuilt block. Its $2000 but its great insurance to know that the engine will handle all your power needs. For the price of a sr swap you can build the KA and make almost twice as much power.

Besides lowering your compression will help prevent detonation.

You were saying you wanted the stage 3 kit but didn't want to mess with internals but the stage 3 kit comes with them. You can buy the block from them and they did all the hard work for you that you would have to do your self if you bought the stage 3 kit. Then just add a stage 2 turbo kit along with the rebuilt block, what ever else you want and be making anywhere from 300-500hp.
