Ok, so I just got done with my ka-t setup. very basic here, t25 turbo with megan racing manifold, SR injectors, SR sidemount mounted in the front with custom piping, wlbro 255 fuel pump, SAFC2, boost controller and turbo timer. Stock pistons and rods, Cometic headgasket and ARP head studs. My question is would a tune from a professional shop really be necessary? My car runs fine at 5 lbs of boost. i actually do want to turn up the boost to 7 or 8.

7-8 psi is not a problem for the engine unless your tuning is horrible.Tuning the 370s with an SAFC isn't going to be the best route.

Someone may say differently but I'd say either sell the 370s and tune the stock injectors with the AFC OR get a full tuned ECU... which is better anyway.

Because your list does not have a Wideband on it I would not be trying to 'pretend' what a good tune is.

if you are going to be upping the boost definently get a wideband. if i were you i would get an ecu tune or have it dyno tuned. i dont believe the safc can change your timing though

How are you running 5psi? Most internal gates, especially on the 2.4 will spike 7-8psi before falling down to 5-6psi.

Did you do anything for timing?

You need a wideband for your safc and some sort of timing solution...

A good custom tune will always perform better over safc/base timing retard.

uhh hell yes tuning is neccessary. Get a rom tune and your engine will last regardless of what boost your running.

I ran 12psi on a t3 super 60, and 400cc injectors all day with a stock KA only using a SAFC II and wideband... did that for over 5,000 miles before i put a built motor in. I don't see why 8psi would be a problem.
