Well I took my 240 to the local 1/4 mile track for the first time after being turbo'd. I'm a little disapointed but Ill get over it. Here are my times: 14.43 @ 102.81 14.11 @ 102.71 14.35 @ 101.85 I had a hard time with launching, i would spin real bad all through first. It doesnt help that I still have the open diff. After every run I could smell clutch real bad. I only have 700 miles on it.The next thing i will purchase will be a j30 diff. that will definitely help with my launch. My set up:stock motor 170,000 milesTurbonetics t3/t04e 50 trim .48 a/r at 7 psiHallman boost controller550cc DW fmicJWT ecujgs kitraptor bovclutch masters stage 3 clutch

Did you break in the clutch?

With a LSD and some practice, even with just practice you can get down into the 13's. Throttle control at low rpms if you dont have the traction.

with that trap speed you should def be capable of a mid 13 sec pass. 13.60s tops.... not bad though for your setup, so stop complaining.

Up the boost, get a diff, and some radials. Def. get a improvment in your 1/4 time.

Are you sure you have an open diff? I thought S14 SE models had VLSD...both of mine do.

A good 60' is 1.6 so...you'll be a full second faster as soon as you figure out how to launch it. Mid 13's aint bad for 6 psi bro I was able to get a decent launch with 205/55 Pirrelli P6's bro...thats an all weather tire. It just takes practice. Remember, when the light turns green you don't have to "HOLY CRAP GO!!!!!". When running against the clock it's best to concentrate on a steady launch. Without drag radials you're gonna need to slip the clutch, albeit quickly in order to not shockload the tires and break traction. You don't have to worry about spooling the turbo, that .48 AR should be damn near instant boost. Don't speed shift into 2nd and 3rd either. Just shift quickly.

I'm sure it's an open differential. I need to spend a lot more time at the track and work on my launch.

I dont hit full boost untill about 3000 rpms, I expected the .48 to spool up much quicker. I dont know if it makes a big difference but I have a huge intercooler and a lot of bends.

Your intercooler setup will only affect transient response (on and off throttle).

3000rpm for a .48 is a little late. Do you have any exhaust leaks?

your car came stock with a vlsd.. so I don't know what's going on. either someone swapped it out, or it just doesn't' work anymore.

I'm wandering if my wastegate is set properly. It's a jgs with open dump. I've never messed with the set screw on the wastegate.

his car doesnt have a vlsd equipped from the factory. look at the engine bay.... no ABS. only abs equipped cars came with a vlsd. also, you cant adjust your wastegate... well atleast on a tial you cant, and thats all ive ever ran (and one hks). neither of them had any adjustment screw. maybe the jgs is different but i doubt it. get a first gen greddy profec B

getting out of the hole is killing your times. work on that first. get a vlsd before anything, or weld that fuccker....

my 96 S14 SE has no abs, moonroof, or a vlsd. Only thing I had was the SE front lip, 5-lug, and the fog lights. .

Nope. Plenty of SE's came with an open diff. Mine was an open diff.

S14 It was a ABS/VLSD package from the factory so is you have abs you came stock with vlsd(SE or not). ALL Canada sold s14s came with vlsd.

S13 only the hicas cars came with VLSD.....I think could be wrong on that one tho

All j30s came with VLSD use the 94-95 for the easiest install

Nice numbers Love the car

I just got back from the track with some new times..... I put the 12psi WG spring in but still have the open diff. and street tires. My best time was 13.59 @ 105 mph while spinning hard through first. I'm looking for a good priced J30 rear diff. right now and hoping for 2 or 3 more mph's.

big improvement, but what were your other numbers? post the whole slip, so we can see how much difference 5 lbs of boost makes.

Cant get enough of those springs lol, i hoard them.

Nice times man, LSD would help you get low 13's. Weight becomes an issue with the car after that, you really need to do weight reduction if you want better times. For instance, my gutted 89 HB with a stock redtop, 1 bar t25 made a 13.5 in the 1/4th. Power to weight is sweet.

Its still fine. No shaft play, the motors in good health. I want to eventually upgrade it to a BW but that takes a new manifold.. Exhaust, ect.

I hate weight reduction unless it's a purpose built car. I can understand no spare or tools in the car when AT the strip...but the rest is in poor taste. Reminds me of stripped out Honda's...yuck.

Good times are all about traction and power. Traction is the first leap...
