I owned a toyota MR2 and was having detonation problems that I just couldent figure out. So, when I rebuilt that motor I decided to see what would happen to intake temps if I blocked off the same lines. It didnt help under load that much but at idle sitting in traffic the intake temps were about 10degrees cooler. I had also made a spacer between the manifold and head, to keep the heat out of the intake. One of the guys on the MR2 board made a spacer out of phenalic resin and he saw significant drops in running teperatures in the intake manifold. The idea stems from GASP NASCAR. They use low conductivity materials to keep the incoming charge cooler giving more power. I know it doesent do much but any little bit helps give me peace of mind and it hardley ever gets cold enough here for me to need to heat the throttle body! I live in the south and Ill be driving around in 90+ temps constantly this summer.
BTW anybody have a cheap digital camera they want to part with?
