Got my homegrown kit running today:ylsuper - took a spin around the block with an open downpipe- just to make sure everything was good...no leaks, noises, etc.. First run went great. Next day off i need to finish connecting the downpipe to the exhaust. I'll get some pics from underneath too.

looks nice man! whats your setup like? how are you managing fuel and timing? what mani do you have, whats up with that huge oil feed, etc, etc, etc... lets hear it!

Well at the heart of it is a .63ar T3 w/internal wg, on a JGS mani. Custom welded intercooler piping (done in the driveway)- 2.25 hot side, to starion intercooler- re-fitted with 2.25 inlet/outlet to 2.5 coldpipe. I ran the piping under the radiator support on both sides, hugging the frame as closely as possible. If by the "huge oil feed" you mean the two braided hoses running across the front of the motor, those are the turbo coolant lines. The oil feed is the small one all the way up top that i haven't strapped down yet. Fuel is being managed at the moment by an FMU, stock injectors, and a 255lph fuel pump; but after the bugs are out (and boost is up) i'll be going to 370's and an safc. Timing will be controlled by an MSD Boost timing master (not yet installed- in my room). Downpipe was made from 2.5 inch steel, i have not yet decided on an exhaust yet, i want it to be very quiet. Don't worry, turbine and downpipe will be insulated- as well as mc, ps reservoir, and ac line. (insulation kits in my room too). Cooling will be handled by the stock radiator for now, with an electric fan, but before she goes back on the road i'll upgrade the radiator to a better one, i still have a few months of winter left. Sorry if i jumped around there, it's late and i'm tired. Any questions or input- fire away, i check back fairly often.

Ok you've got me confused...the smaller braided line running to a 90 ontop of your turbo is your oil feed right? I see some other braided lines in front but can't see where they go, so ill assume those are your coolant lines. If you could post a pic of your oil pan when you get a chance that'd be cool, ive been trying to figure out the best way to do it..

Yes, you are correct about the lines, small one up top is oil, two big ones in the middle are coolant, they loop up from underneath to the sides of the turbo. Heres a pan pic for you- i just ran outside and snapped it on the ground, so it's not the best, but next time i'm under it i'll get a better one. it's a steel pipe nipple from home depot welded to the pan, and aeroquip 5/8" stainless covered oil hose- 30" piece was about $30, but it will be safe from abrasions, heat, etc...- which was a concern the way i ran it around the ac comp and engine mount.

ahhhhh thats cool man, wet bearings! thats what I want to do also. tell me, where did you hook up the inlet and outlets for the coolant?

sorry I thought that was oil and you just ran it all the way over the engine or something haha. Sweet, how much do you plan to boost?

LOVE the matched piping colors. Very nice touch!

Have you considered picking an E-Manage for your SAFC?

It'll do timing - saving you the $200 or so on the MSD box. It's what I decided on. Closest thing you can get to standalone value for under a grand, in my opinion.

Wow you car looks really clean inside the engine bay and outside of it :)I am wondering where you tapped in for the coolant lines? I am also gogn to install a watercooled turbo and I am not sure yet where the coolant feed/returns should be. So where and why did u tap urs where u did?

What's your compressor size on the T3? Your turbo looks very similar to mine off of a 2nd gen RX-7, with huge turbine and smaller compressor. Almost a reverse t3/t4 :) How much are you boosting, and when do you get full boost by?

I already use an AFC and plan on getting the BTM from MSD. Which BTM did you get? And for what reason? (I know there are three different ones, and they are all about the same, but I am curious). The JGS manifold, did you get it complete or just a "log" without a flange/exhaust flange and made the piping urself? I am ordering mine from them too, but I need just the exhaust flange as I'll be welding the rest myself.

Sorry for so many questions, but this is very very interesting to me as a fellow KA-T do-it-yourselfer :)

I ran them off the throttle body coolant lines. easiest way i could think of....

how much do you plan to boost?

I would like to go to 10psi once i do the larger injectors- but probably around 8 for now.

Still have some work to do (like finish the exhaust and insulate everything) before i do any serious efforts at turning the boost up. yesteday was more of a make sure everything doesn't leak test run...if you know what i mean. I only went to about 4 psi and not at full throttle it seemed to spool just fine, a noticeable difference in power. The bov seems fine, no stalls or stumbles- but that may change. I'll keep everyone informed as it progresses.

Answered this down the line some, but the TB lines- because it was easy.

What's your compressor size on the T3? Your turbo looks very similar to mine off of a 2nd gen RX-7, with huge turbine and smaller compressor. Almost a reverse t3/t4 :) How much are you boosting, and when do you get full boost by?

It's a Nissan turbo- i believe from a 300zx as the turbine it came with had a wierd exhaust elbow that looks similar the the passenger side from one. I replaced it with a new turbine and WG assy to keep my ac and ease of mounting. I think being a Z turbo it's AR is 60- not 100% sure though as it's not marked anywhere- Is anyone good with Id'ng those things i can give them all the info cast into the compressor???

I already use an AFC and plan on getting the BTM from MSD. Which BTM did you get? And for what reason?

The universal one- because i wasn't running an msd igniton already.

The JGS manifold, did you get it complete or just a "log" without a flange/exhaust flange and made the piping urself? I am ordering mine from them too, but I need just the exhaust flange as I'll be welding the rest myself.

I got it unfinished (as a log with the flange separate) and welded and ground it out myslef. I welded all the intercooler and exhaust piping from steel U and 45deg bends. Got the 3 bolt tubo exh flange from ebay for like $25

Sorry for so many questions, but this is very very interesting to me as a fellow KA-T do-it-yourselfer :)

Love talking about it- never mind questions! I got a lot of info from this board (didn't even think about KAT until i saw it) and i'm trying to give some back now.

Thanks, I wanted a really clean install- make it look like it came that way was one of my goals. FMIC is black and barely visible unless you're up close, and i plan on a quiet exhaust- nothing loud...Borla maybe- anybody here have one on theirs? How does it sound?

I already have the MSD, so not getting it is kind of out of the question. I do plan on getting an SAFC and injectors and VLSD before spring....more high maintinence than the girlfriend...not quite as *****y though- and that makes it all worth it.:D

LongIsland240 ,

Hey Im from Port Jeff originally.

Couple of questions. The fitting on the oil pan, is that just one of those brass ones at home depot? To hook up the braided rubber hose. Did you use the oil drain tube fitting that came with the turbo, or did you thread in a new fitting?

Work in port jeff now....but anyway, it's not a brass pipe fitting, but a plain steel one (not galvanized)- i cut it down, and welded it on, i left the treaded end on it as it kind of helped hold the hose which had a nice snug fit and then i clamped it. The turbo drain fitting was basically a flange that bolts over turbo's drain hole w/a straight tube about 3" long coming off it. I got that and the inlet flange with a "turbo oil line kit" i got online. It worked out good, except they only gave me 12" of drain hose, so i had to get another piece from a hose shop- i used about 24"-26"
