i have a 91 coupe. i replaced all gaskets on a motor i picked up. i drove the car to my aunts place and swapped everything over onto the new motor. as of right now, the car will crank but not run. i pulled the fuel rail and spun the dizzy and all injectors fire. i grounded the spark plugs and all of them spark when spinning the dizzy. i figured it was the timing. i reinstalled the dizzy at least 10 times. i pulled the upper chain on and off at least 5 times and i just redid the lower chain and everything else together last night. tried starting again last night but it still will not start. i am certain that the timing is done properly as i double checked everything before i put the covers back on. since dropping in the new motor, ive gotten a backfire twice and smoke from the front a few times. i was able to get the car running once 2 days ago but it ran like s***. it rocked like it was running on 1 cylinder and it smoothed out wen i brought it up to 2k rpms with the exception it was shooting a good amount of smoke out the exhaust. not really sure what else to check or wat can be causing the problem. any help/feedback appreciated. i checked alot of threads but alot of the ones with the same issue had no fix or was not updated.

btw i did the timing stuff following every step of the fsm just to be sure i did it right. i made sure there was no slack between timing marks and installed the tensioners. all timing marks were lined up while crankpulley was in the 2nd notch to the left which shouldve been at tdc. also, i cleaned up the emissions and watnots. iacv is still there

well if everything you did was done correctly, I would do a compression test. What kind of maf are you running? what are you using to tune with? whats your setup?

Definitly need the setup.

When you had the crank pulley at TDC did the cam lobes on the #1 cylinder point away from each other? When you stabbed the dizzy, did you align the rotor with the #1 plug? If so then the timing is correct.

Are the plugs wet? Might wanna check your oil. To much fuel passing by the rings might have ruined it.

sr t25, n60 maf, emance ecu, vafc2. i havent checked compression yet but while cranking with the plugs out i can feel air rush out the cylinder

wd-with the crank pulley on tdc mark, both cams lobes on exhaust and intake were facing their manifolds on cyl 1. when i put the dizzy in, i had the valve cover off and i lined up the markings on the gear and shaft. the cap went on right over with the rotor on cyl 1. i checked the plugs a few times but there was always a slight film of gas on it. the funny thing is that i pulled the rail and checked the injectors for pulse and none of the orings leaked.

i drove the car there with the emance ecu.

gonna get a compression test done tmrw. i pulled the cap again before and noticed that at tdc the rotor was pointing at cyl 4 terminal which confused the s*** out of me. i have no idea why it was there. i reinstalled the dizzy and sure enough the car started with the help of some throttle. as soon as i let off the gas the car stalled out and wasnt able to start again. seemed like i had low compression wen it was running though

Ok, sounds like you've got the timing done correctly. Personally I don't see why people have a hard time to begin with. Line up the marks, align the rotor...done.

Ok, do you have power everywhere? Spark is working for sure? What has changed from the last time it was started until now?
