Opinions please....

Since my ka-t project will soon be in the car, I am wondering if I should invest in a lightened flywheel or not. With the added power and torque, I dont know if the fly would be worth it, what do you think?

I have one and love it... It was great N/A and even better with turbo... I like being able to blip the throttle and have the engine jump.

believe you always want less rotating mass, thats where the flywheel can come in:).

the only problem i can think off with having a lightweight flywheel is that you'll stall if you put the car into neutral in too high of a rev.

makes clutch jobs less hasel since you can replace the friction surface instead of having to run to a machine shop.

its also like intake headers and exhuast. one by itself isnt a huge difference, but together it makes a great combo. underdrive pulley/flywheel/lightened driveshaft

I'd say it's definitely worth it...

Going from a 28 lb flywheel to an 11 lb flywheel over that large of a diameter makes a pretty noticeable difference...I replaced mine with a Fidanza/ACT street clutch AFTER the car was turbocharged and loved the feel of it afterwards...the engine seems more rev-happy, turbo seems to spool a bit quicker.

Don't worry about it stalling either...I'm sure a LOT of the KA-T's in here will stall if you stab the clutch at a high RPM...just something you need to live with, one of the downsides of turbocharging a car not designed to be turbocharged. The revs drop quicker...but they also climb quicker. Positives def. outweigh the negatives.

Go for it though.

having 91 dual exhaust cams (248 248), lightened flywheel, lightened crank pulley, electric fan conversion, i lost ALOT of low end power when the turbo wasnt spooling.

Thanks for the opinions; I knew that the less rotating mass = good, but don't want to go overboard. I might as well go crazy though, when my motor is done being built I will be driving it NA for a while, to break it in and to still have a car to drive while I piece together a setup. Once the car is boosting I'm wanting to get a daily, so I might as well go crazy with the 240 if it isn't going to be driven everyday....

Thanks again guys, I guess I shall invest in a flywheel!

I dunno if it is just due to the clutch or not, but I feel I have to rev the piss (1500rpm+) out the motor just to get the car moving. Its great once you are moving, shifts are quick, and rev matching is a breeze. Just not great for stop and go traffic...mabye im just whiney cause all the major highways in chicago are torn up, and I have to spend an hour and a half on side streets to get to and from work.

It's definitely not the clutch, I have an ACT Xtreme clutch and it pretty much drives like stock.... kinda makes me happy I didnt get the lightened flywheel if you say its that much of a pain for daily... I love the way this clutch feels
