i'm new to the ka-t build, right now i have an s13 with sr20det that i use for a daily drive, and i'm planning on selling it and getting another 240 s14. my goal is to have 300whp with a ka-t setup, and use it for a daily driver. how is the ka-t on gas mileage? can you tune the fuel map with a greddy emanagemt?

you stay out of boost, get 14.7 afr while cruising and a 14.7 at idle... It would be like there wasn't a turbo at all.

I dont care about my gas mileage, yes it is an expense but thats all inherent with the whole ka-t thing. the joy of my car > worring about gas prices, cant do much about it. I do car pool though on occasion.

3k-3100 rpms the wbo2 said 13.70-.80 and some rough math est 17-18 solid highway miles, but if i keep it around 2700, some where around 24mpg. strictly highway.

i could lean the map out a little bit in the crusing rpms but if i load the engine in 4th 1\2 throttle ill make 5psi at 3300 and i dont want it leaner even though i might be able to get away with it, my compression is the same since january, and the past 1.5 months of being turboed. 180 175 180 180

If you can;t afford to go turbo and spend the money on gas, your not ready to afford a turbo car. PERIOD.

is there a way to create different fuel map with the greddy e management or a different fuel management system? so you can have a fuel saver map on the weekday and full power on the weekend

ka turbo + 1600cc Injectors = 6mpg

Who cares about gas prices, if you dont spend the money on gas your going to spend it on something else like food or movies or something like that.

if you dont want to waste gas, then dont floor it. the turbo isnt gonna magically boost all the time.

remember, the fpr (fuel pressure regulator) works off of boost on 1:1 ratio (1lb of fuel pressure added for every lb of boost). so for everytime, you boost it, pressure goes up, hence making less gas mileage while in boost. dont even try to do FMU setup (8:1, 12:1, etc). its better to get at least 370cc injectors and compensate through SAFC or whatever and keep stock base fuel pressure.

if your o2 sensor is working and your car is functioning in closed loop mode properly (in light load, idle, etc) then you should be making halfway decent gas mileage (at least 23-25 mpg) when you cruise around. if your o2 is dead, then computer will see 0v (thinking its lean) of feedback and will dump more fuel than needed (lots of daily driveability funkiness).

with my JWT ecu/cobra mafs/72lb injector setup, i would get 25 mpg on the highway. thats because base pressure was stock and my o2 was working (14.7:1 afr in closed loop conditions). but when i needed the fuel (for those occassional 350-400 whp highway runs or whatever), it was there.

f***ed up SOHC with 7 psi from t3, makes around 200ish hp, 17mpg. It used to be 23~24. So 300hp should be around 10mpg.

sigh i remember the good when 20$ was a really good amount of gas...now it takes 40$ to fill up...kind of bad timing to start boosting....but well worth it

You dont need to just tune the car properly. I have an emanage now and mine is tuned to turn 14.7:1 at idle 15.5:1 at cruise and dips to 11.7:1 at WOT under load. I do only have 370's so I am sure that that makes a difference over the big boys. But even if you have big injectors if you have an EMS that can maintain them at a low pulsewidth you should still be able to maintaing good mileage. Of course it all goes out the window when you start driving in boost all the time.

EXACTLY what I think Rick...The money always gets spent. I have stock in HOOTERS and Dunkin Donuts for Christ Sakes. My only opinion is this, if it's going to get bad mileage, it had better be fast.

Just a quick thought. How many of you are obtaining their wastegate signal from the intake manifold and how many are sourcing it somewhere in the intercooler piping? I was thinking about this a bit a little while ago and it would occur to me that with a signal from the intake mani would cause the wastegate to remain closed even if it is pressurizing the intake piping. Using the intercooler piping as the signal source would open the wastegate when it sees the set boost level in the intercooler piping. This would mean that there would be less backpressure in teh exhaust unde conditions that would cause positive pressure in the intercooler piping, but vacuum in the intake mani. It would probably have small effect IMO, but it would be interesting to see if there is a trend.

I was sourcing the signal from the intake mani and pulling 15 mpg average with a T04B at 6.5 psi.
