alright right now i have a KA with just minor mods (read at the bottom). im finally realizing i REALLY want a turbo but im left with the endless debate of nissan 240 owners: spend money on the sr20 or a KA-T. right now im thinking KA-T........ this is where my problem begins. sorry to say but screw all the built up turbo kits already..... i cant afford them! im a broke college kid pimpin out my car with summer job money. what do i have to do or put on my car to turbo the KA? what will it cost me? where should i be looking for these parts? what will it produce hp/torque wise for my car? oh yea and how hard would it be for me to install (im no car guru) i would probably have a friend thats a mechanic help me (it would seem smart to do).......this would be a huge help because i dont want to take out my engine at 49K if i dont have to.

thanks guys

There are a few small parts, and a few large that would start you off with a basic kit. If you do a search you will find this question answered in other places. Also, take a little time reading up on alot of what this part of the forum says. Almost everything here is helpful info.

Start with buying these things:

Cone filterFilter adaptor for MAFSHigh heat silicone (optional for better sealing)Exhaust wrapTurbo manifoldTurbooil supply steel braidded line (approx 4 - 5ft)Oil supply teeBOV or By-pass valve, (your preference/choice)Wastegate (if you get a turbo without an internal wastegate)Oil return line (approx 2ft), (many people use rubber hose)Fuel pumpFMUIntercoolerIntercooler piping (exhaust shops can make these for you cheaply, but should be replaced with aluminum or so when affordable)Downpipe or an exhaust shop to make oneDownpipe to turbo mounting flange (some turbos/kits come with these)Someone to weld a bung into your oil pan (with it off first).

These things should allow you to run 5-6psi approx 210-220hp.I dont know the prices of what different places might charge.

T3 turboths are in JY's they run about $100 and have internal wastegates.

I dont know what the driveablity would be like with only an FMU and fuel pump?

Go buy a book, I am reading Maximum Boost right now and it was expensive ($35) but a good buy. Expect it to be a little bit technical though

Ok ok I admit after looking at some of the other books at the library/bookstore I choose maximum boost because it had the most pictures, and was pretty easy to read! haha I think it is pretty good though.

Hey, evansville is in southern IN.. yea i put my springs on. actually they were real easy, took me about 2hrs. really you only need like 2 or 3 sockets and something to compress the spring. you just take your wheel off, take the bolt on the bottom of the strut off and the 3 nuts at the top then the whole thing comes out. then theres just one bolt at the top to take off to get the spring off, but you might want to compress the spring before you take it all the way off. believe me i had one shoot across the yard at like 100 mph. those things are scary! other than that its pretty easy, the rear ones to get to the bolts on the top of the strut you have to take that rear speaker cover thing out under the back window. im not sure when im coming up there, where do you live when your not in school? Actually my friend Matt Harvey that goes there, helped my put mine on, i dont know if you know him, he's an engineer major. ill let you know if im coming up there soon, if you have any more ?'s then just e-mail me,

i live 15 minutes outside DC in Potomac, MD. Im not going to be back home where my tools are until summer thats why i was asking. im really want these stupid things on... Where did you get the compressor from or did you not use one? i heard you can borrow one from some stores if you give them a credit card or some crap, like track auto. naw, i dont know your friend. its a pretty big school. what year is he.

i got mine from auto-zone, you give them a $50 deposit and you get it back when you bring the compressor back. its real simple, you can also use some sort of a clamp or vice too.
