after a VERY long time and way too much research, the DE is finally turboed. i was going to keep it a secret until the Buford Dam meet this month, but i cant hold out any longer. its a temp setup that was installed and running in 4 days, but it seems to be working well. its leaking a little oil which i will be investigating tomorrow, but other than that its running great. setup is:

-T3 turbo from RB20-E&E T3 manifold-370cc injectors-Walbro 255-EGR block-off-A'PEXi S-AFCII-recirc pipe-VDO boost gauge-3" DP-RB20 BOV (will be replaced with something else shortly)

it sounds nasty. with the JWT cams, it lopes like crazy and almost wants to die out, but at WOT it moves its ***. im guessing its around 210-220hp without an intercooler. the intercooler will be done this week, but i was pressed for time.

the entire cost of this was right around $800. ill get some pics up here shortly. im just lazy.

Its on a swapped DOHC.

Hey Bruce, think using your ingen intake as piping might have anything to do with the blow up? :p E&E is the shop he works at, guessing its a custom fab.

Just wait a few weeks and I'll show you a real Ka-T.

Fergus - the wastegate stayed open and boosted well past 14psi. and since i was using the RB20 T3, it didnt like it much.

240DRFT - check the pics below. there not the best, but gives you a general idea.

I think max you can usually run is about 6psi.But that also depends on your engine size. You can use water/alc injection instead of intercooler and get similiar results.

No intercooler setups are good if the turbo is in decent (70+%) efficency range and fuel rich but I say dumb and scary to do so don't go over 5psi as previously stated. I have fmic and I only run 4psi for the moment. -Dave

For what it's worth I ran 8-9 psi for a year without an intercooler. But I was also running alcohol injection and 94 octane fuel. Never pinged, not once.

USDM, I have toyed with using a tbo3 turbo I have from the 300zx (that's right, it's not exactly a t3). How much boost were you running, and what was your max RPM?

Chezedik - i was running 7lbs. dont really know anything beyond that as the wastegate became stuck open on the second pull and the shaft split. im rethinking my KA-T plan right now. ill most likely use a spare block and build it to handle upwards of 600hp. only time will tell.

brunswick - i cant wait either. all i need is more money.

It's common to run 50/50 with an intercoolerWithout one...I wouldn't use any alcohol

All it takes is a bad tank of gas and hot day to put a hole in the block

USDM240If you get water injection you could run 8-9psi without an intercooler, so no rush on that part

Do you run water or alcohol on your car?

There is nothing wrong with running straight methonal or straight denatured alcohol. In fact you get a considerable increase in octane and knock reduction with or without water.

Water is free, thats the best thing about it. There is also no set amount of boost you can safely run with any type water/alky injection setup. It varies greatly on the volume of whatever liquid is injected.

Try not to post vague numbers. There is a great deal involved with any subinjection system.

No 'active' cooling on that puppy at all? I keep seeing all these DE turbo's with *reduced* cooling capabilities. I can see replacing a clutch fan w/electric, but elimination alltogether?

Is this anywhere near safe/smart?

Just curious; it certainly does clean up the bay. Sounds like you really pinched the penny for your setup. ::
