ok well i got the drivers side black re painted, looks way better now! waiting on a friend to get his cherry picker over to my house co i can drop the pan and have it cut and re-welded.... then installed in truck but that might be a few days till he gets it here, so im thinking about doing all the wiring now...... before engine gets installed. will post pics of paint later

also how much transmission fluid goes in here? its an 85 5sp..... it all drained out the tail shaft as we removed it

On D21 4x4's, the factory fill plug was an inch too low, and can start to make rumbling sounds if left that way, so the general rule is to overfill it through the shifter location. Another way is to jack the truck up on one side, or park it on a sideways incline. My favorite way is through the shifter.

This ^ is for the FS5W71C transmission, though, and if it does get overfilled, it can leak it out of the vent tube until it's just right.

It's not exactly what you have, but maybe it could help I think you have an FS5R30A. I used to have this transmission in an older D21, and I filled it through the shifter until it was nearly full. I think it was a little more than 4qts.

You don't need more than 2 1/2 quarts. This would bring the level above the cluster gear shaft in the box.

I see you cut the original plate in the flooring. I didn't want to cut mine until I got a new shifter rubber to seal it properly. I haven't gotten mine back as yet. We have problems getting the injectors to fire. When using start spray it starts but dies as its used up.
