I know obd2 has to have the 2 o2 sensors, but im unsure about the engine. To keep everything a straight forward direct swap that will pass emissions do i need an engine from an obd2 240sx?

it would be much easier... all the sensors would be there so it would be cheaper then sourcing those afterwards if you dont have them. unless you're swapping just longblocks, then a 96+ motor would be easiest

If you are looking to improve horsepower and definitely torque, you can get a lot out of the motor you already have using a beefed up ECU. I actually have an AEM EMS for sale (Engine Management System) that simply replaces your stock ECU. On a 240sx, look at the dyno proven difference on just a stock 240sx with the AEM EMS!

It is listed under the NICO parts forum, and I am asking $900 or best offer. It is still factory sealed. Hope this helps!

huge jack move miss matching obd1 with obd2 is a pain but u can make it work...i have obd2 engine with obd1 transmission the only downside for me is the crank position sensor check engine light bc the obd1 does not have that sensor on the transmission....u will run into alot of small crap like that
