I've been having some trouble with my S13 SR transmission; I can't put it into gear, even when I'm holding the clutch down: It's like I'm not touching the clutch at all

I tried bleeding it for a few hours, but I'm starting to think it's the throw out bearing that's seized, and was wondering if the bearing from the KA24DE is compatible with the SR20DET transmission, at least temporarily, and even if the KA transmission will fit onto the SR engine until I can rebuild my SR transmission.

If anyone has any input, I would be eternally grateful

Or if anyone may know what the problem is and a possible solution that would also be great, and may save me some time and money!

Thanks,Billy

buy a KA transmission and swap bellhousings.

Problem Solved.

The trannys are identical.except for small gearing changes.and ofcoure bell housings.

99% it's not your release bearing. if it were seized you'd hear a terrible noise every time you pressed the clutch pedal, and you'd probably actually still be able to put it in gear.

I'm guessing you have either a bad slave or master cylinder. Before pulling the transmission i'd suggest replacing them (replace the master with a NEW Tokico or Nissan piece, not an autozone rebuilt. autozone slave cyl's are ok).

If the clutch pedal feels normal when you press it, then it's not related to hydraulcs. With it in neutral and running, if you press the clutch, you should be abel to hear the gearbox stop turning. If you hear the gear box wind down and you still cant put it into gear, then that would indicate a problem with the gearbox. If you press the clutch and you Don't hear the gearbox wind down, then that points to a problem with the hydraulics.

With it in neutral and the engine running, with your foot off the clutch, try gently pushing it into first gear. The rpm's should to drop a bit and the car may even move forward slightly. If that happens then that's another indication that its something in the clutch system and not your gearbox.

Also, when you bled the system, did you bypass the damper assembly? it's completely superfluous and more difficult than it should be to bleed the system with it in place. I thought I was clever enough to bleed my system with it, but I never could get all the air out.

Yeah, I bypassed the dampener box, and bled the whole system, as it was empty.

That happens regardless of whether or not I'm pressing the clutch.

Also, the master cylinder worked fine before the swap, so I don't think that it's bad.

Thanks Neil

rubber seals can work fine one day and then **** themselves the next, especially if you're using a slightly heavier pressure plate now.

replace the slave first cuz its cheaper.. if it doesn't help, then replace the master. if that doesn't help, then, well.. there's not much you can do without getting in the bell housing. Good luck!
