KA rod width?

Does anyone know what the B.e. rod width is and less importantly what size rod journal your ka24 motors use? I'm thinking outside the box on my 350 buick buildup, and since your rod length is very nice (6.496 vs buicks 6.387) your pin is smaller (lighter) and your big end is slightly smaller then the buick means more hp, more clearance for me. Also, what are the hp limits on your stock rods? - if its at or around 300 I might be interested in buying two sets if the width works out well.

Here is some specs, from memory (vernier not mic, so approximate)

KA, approximate

B.E width = .975"Journal dia. = 1.96"Pin dia. = .827" (full float bushed rod, 21mm pin)(non-truck)

Z24 (alternate, same length and build strength compared to KA) appox.

B.E width = 1.050"Journal dia. = 1.96"Pin dia. = .826 (press fit 21mm pin)

The big and small end both have the same width on each rod, respectively. The z24 rod has approx. .080" wider journal, otherwise similar build (strong rod).

Both rods should be well suited for some narrowing to fit a custom application (within reason). Be aware these forgings are extremely hard, try to stay away from honing as much as possible, lots of time involved for the machinist (like refitting piston pin to alternate diameter).

If you want to work with a larger piston pin diameter, try go with the 240sx/STANZA/ALTIMA rod and not a truck or z24 version. The bronze pin bushing can be honed out and it is easier to hone the rest or insert an alternate bushing to fit.

IIRC the I.D. with the pin bushing removed is around .940" , but that might be some toyota spec stuck in my mind, not sure.

I do this stuff a lot too, sounds like a cool project. Not to familiar with your application, but you may be able to work in a slight offset grind when getting the rods fit and stroke/de-stroke, just a bit.

thank you very much for your specs. Its to replace the factory pressure cast rods, of which are .836 wide, so i think that it will work quite well. I am going to need custom piston's whether i go with stock rod or these (stopped making us forged pistons) and using the lighter pin will be really nice to have. I like that its already a full floating pin that makes it even nicer to have. My rod journals will only have to be cut .040 to fit these rods, of which doesn't bother me. So how much does a set of the 240 sx stock rods sell for? I'll be looking for 2 sets very shortly and if i can get some good pistons for cheap, (well, relatively speaking) then this might just catch on over at the buick sb community!

Thanks again!

You could also look into the mitsubishi G54b rods. These are slightly longer than KA (few thousands over 6.5"), and have a larger rod journal.

Not sure about the width.

These 2.6l engines come in mitsubishi starions, mitsubishi 2.6l trucks, mazda 2.6l trucks, and some dodge caravans with the mitsu 2.6l.

Happy to help.

my stock journal is 2.00 so i don't need to cut much - plus, now i just need to buy 2 sets of 4 cyl rods.

i actually have 8 of these rods sitting around.

i would also check http://www.ka-t.org, a lot of us on there build up the ka24's and have rods hanging around so i would be willing to give mine away pretty damn cheap.

Markoshoot me an email @ emal removed, he contacted me
