bleed the block. There is a screw on the upper radiator hose. I had the same problem. Just open it then fill the radiator. Put the screw back on. Let it run till its hot. See if your heater is putting out hot air. If its not, repeat until it works. if its still over heating after 2 or 3 times, you might need a head gasket and all that goes with it.

wasnt ment to be insulting. youd really be suprised to find out how many peaple, even seasoned techs that do it. kinda along the lines of when you rush, acsidents happen. try the bleedd. open your cap and fill the radiator. run the motor and unsrew the bleed valve, dont remove it

try just burping the system by starting cold with the rad cap off and see if you get any bubbles or if the fluid level drops. add more coolant as necessary.

after all that i don't think burping will help sound like a head gasket to me. i mean lets face it if you replace the water pump and then run it some time between one of those process of the turning off you vehicle and letting it cool down to do the the next thing; it should have burped out. unless you did all that at once. and putting the thermostat backward is a possibility and you shouldn't be insulted by that. "IF YOU NEVER MADE A MISTAKE YOU NEVER FIXED ANYTHING." that is how WE ALL learned.

headgasket is band spankin new, and i think i should bleed my block befor i go tearing everything appart... again. and yes i did pretty much do it all at once. i also made sure the thermostat wasn't in backwards..

I had this problem too, My aluminum. radiator that I put in was too efficient. The cooler than ambient temp on one side of the term, to the hotter water temp on the other side would not allow the thermostat to open.

My remedy was to drill a 3/8in hole in the thermostat. It takes a little longer to warm-up, but it works.

okay so i tried getting the air bubble out and it didn't work.. mainly because I'm not really sure what i'm looking for. I got ramps and raised the front end, took the rad cap off and loosend the bleed valve, i also turned the heat on high and turned the fan to max. when i cranked car air started bubbling out of the rad, i figured it was normal. but it would momenteraly stop then start up again. Then it began to over heat again so i put the rad cap on and screwed the bleed valve in, and it overheated more...

did i do something wrong.

are you sure your fans are working properly? and do you have just one or two? if its one, make sure its big enough to coveer the majority of your radiator and is strong enough to move a good amount of air. at what temp do you have the fans kicking on?

i was looking to see if the electric fan was kicking on but it wasn't, and the clutch fan is always moving. i should probably see if the electric fan relay is working. does anyone know which one that is?

and i think im going to try boiling my thermostat and see what temp it opens up at.

so your running an electric and a clutch? ok. just cuz the clutch fan is moving doesnt mean its flowing any air. if you still have the clutch fan and fan shroud, you shouldnt be overheating even without the e fan
