alright well i spun a bearing in my original engine so i purchased at newer used one (96ka) i put all my obd1 (95) stuff on it like intake manifold and while the engine was out i replaced all gaskets(except head gasket) and replaced the oil/water pumps. last night on fist start up it fires right up and idles fine. then it began to start sounding like a ticking, soon after we pulled the car outside and started it again to listen to it we pulled the valve cover and noticed that there was only oil on the front of the cams and the backs didnt have much at all on them. today i took off the oil filter too see if it cycling oil through the whole system from running it the day before and it didnt have much oil at all in it. could the oil pump be defected or could i have a different oil issue? this is stumping me so i thought i might try here?

Check the oil pressure. You might just have some gummed oil. If so sea foam the crank case and change the oil.

its brand new oil that i just bought, and i have no oil pump gauge to check. if it helps i did prime the oil pump before first start up and the noise was not very loud untill after about 30 seconds of it running. i think that its the oilpump but still not 100% sure at the moment

could be a bad pump....should also pull the pan and check the pick-up and measure/ensure you have clearance and nothing is bent or clogged there as well and that there are no issues.
