ok...if you havent read my other exhaust post in the "technical" section titled "quiet exhaust" then ill fill you in. im looking for a good catback exhaust system for my 93 fastback. but im looking for one thats good for the normally aspirated KA24DE. i dont plan on turboing this engine or swapping it for an SR. i also want something that is not loud or big....i dont want the cops bothering me. So far iv found a few that seem to fit my application:

1. 5zigen fireball2. greddy sp3. blitz realize tt

does anyone have any experience or info on these systems? If there is another good catback that im not aware of please post and tell me about it. im open to suggestions:ylsuper

Yeah, i hear the Greddy SP is a great sport exhaust and has a great tone to it. It also has a good show quality look to it. Anybody have this exhaust?

The Greddy SP is nice and quiet. Has a nice tone to it as well. I used an SP when I had an S13 and an MX on my S14 for a while(MX is an SP that has a PE tip) and both only made noise under throttle. Cruising speeds made very little noise.

yea but iv heard the n1 is a very loud system and i think the diameter is too large for an n/a engine. the loss of backpressure would prolly kill my lowend.

Backpressure isnt a good thing. If your exhaust is too large though the exhaust gasses will lose velocity due to turbulence which is bad. but backpressure is not good.

this is especially true with turbo cars, but as for n/a cars, there is such a thing as too little back pressure. because n/a engines dont put out enough pressure, by puting a large pipe on it, it will loose low end torque. there needs to be some back pressure if you dont have a turbo. at least this is what iv heard and read....but i could be wrong

Apexi n1's are loud. I had a Turbo II RX-7, with a bonez downpipe and midpipe, then to dual apexi n1's. It was by far the loudest exhaust i've heard in my life. Not something i ever got used to that much. But it did sound very cool at 6,000 rpm at a 14psi spike :)

jj240 is correct about the exhaust velocity.I've got the 5zigen and it was near-stock quiet for about 6-8 months. Now its loud as all get-out and I love it. It also doubles as my horn since I haven't gotten that to work since installing the new steering wheel...

What I would really like is a 70mm or 2.75" exhaust. 3" just seems too big, but 2.5" seems too small since Ive got increased compression and will have some hot cams soon (hopefully)Does anyone know of a nice stainless 2.5" exhaust if I do end up with 2.5"?

does anybody know when this exhaust is going to come out?http://www.rs-r.com/exmag.htmthey say that rs*r is coming to the US. it's supposed to be really quiet and it looks classy. I emailed them, but no response.

hmm...iv never heard of it before but looks nice. it actually looks very similar to the greddy sp catback, and probably a similar sound. iv read good reviews on the sp as being a quieter system.

ok after hearing two different sound/video clips of the n1 dual, im left with two problems.....1. i would like to hear teh sp exhaust compared to teh n1dual if anyone happens to have it and can get a sound clip. and 2. the two sound clips sounded different, which just confused me. does having a turbo change teh sound of teh exhaust at all? maybe one of the clips was of a turbo 240 and teh other was n/a or maybe it was just the fact that they were diff. years or somting, but they both sounded pretty tame. iv heard other people say the n1 and n1dual are some of the loudest systems, but id like to hear teh sp which iv heard is a quiet system and compare them. Iv probably already asked this but has anyone who has teh n1dual on their 240 gotten a ticket from a cop?? im wondering if i hsould just go with the n1 dual and get the silencers if i need them versus teh sp which sounds quiet but doesnt have the looks the n1 has.......wow i wrote a lot! i clearly have too much free time on my hands, but if anyone was a sound clip of the sp please let me know:thinker

the problem I have with most exhausts is that the tips just look TOO BIG.

I looked at the Borla (now made by nissan - recommended by Aries) and I think that I will get that.

I know what your saying, i dont like most of the exhausts either, I think the n1dual is my least favorite, but most people like it the best, I dont like big shiney mufflers, just tateful tips and deep sound. Borla makes exellent exhaust systems, I think thats a much better choice than apexi or hks. That rsr looks really nice too.

my mki mr2 has about 50% of its stock, 1985 untreated mild steel piping. NONE of it is damaged, and a good portion isnt even rusted. its all 100% working order.

pipes now are treated, so they last longer. going stainless is overpriced and totally unnecessary. treated mild steel will last longer than the car.

buy some mandrel 2.5in U-bends online, get a hacksaw, a length of straight 2.5in mild steel pipe, and a muffler you really like and make a custom exhaust.

pros: you get EXACTLY what you want, in the diameter you want, with the sound you want... for hundreds cheaper.. it'll perform the same, if not better because you can customize it to your application.

cons: you dont have an overpriced name stamped on it :/

^^ i have custom exhausts on my 85 and 91 mr2's.. i also had one on my 98 civic (burnt down :D). umm.. all the pics are MR2 pics.. so its kinda irrelevent (what, like 2 feet of pipes?).

its actually alot easier than you think.

anyways.. for prep.. yank off as much exhaust piping as you can.. b-pipe back is fine. then cut mandrel bent pipes in the same configuration as stock. weld it, or mark the pipes (draw a smilie across the two pipes needing to be welded, so they can be lined up later) and have them welded.. once its all together, do what you gotta do to mate it to the ex manifold, and bolt it up. then make the muffler sit where you want to. then finally get mounts and mount it all up (do mounts last, its waay easier).

I had had the pre-SP Greddy on my S13, sounded great under heavy throttle, mild at idle. I have to admit though I was not a big fan of the huge 130 mm tip, I think it attracted to much police attention. I guess the get excited when they see larger holes than the one in their doughnuts.
