What is the (general) expected life of a DOHC? I have the option to pickup a decent running car for a fair price now, except that it has 210k miles on it. These are generally highway miles, nonracing.. this car is pure stock. I have no plans for this car as any type of HP maker, just need a car to drive. I do know that a million factors effect the life of an engine.. but in your experince, how long can they last?

thanks!

on average I'd say the KA will last 'til.... around eternity, at which point youll have to get it rebuilt

they are great engines and will in many cases pull hard way over 100,00 miles maybe even over 200k in your case, but 210k is a **** load of miles, and honestly i wouldnt invest in any car w/ that much, even as a daily driver. Id be afraid of getting into a money pit

The only internial thing that goes bad in a KA is the chain and chain gards. If you use good oil it will last a loooooooong time.

I'm hoping they last long. So far, so good.I know you're asking about the DOHC but my KA24E has 219,000 miles with the factory clutch (knock on wood).

The Ka is a workhorse engine that was in MANY models in the US domestic market: stanza, frontier, hustler, altima to name a few.Reasoning for this was compatibility and longetivity of parts, ease of replacement, and in the case of the 240... not stepping on the sales toes of the 300zx.

Nissan confirmed life expectancy = 500,000 km+ highway*. 350,000 km+ city*

* majority of driving done under *normal* driving conditions.

So, you have another 100,000 miles before considering an engine rebuild.

there are 1.6 kilometers in a mile.

id hope that the ka will last over 100,000K! ; )

the key is taking care of your engine obviously, letting it warm up a little before reving it, common sense stuff. 210 does seem like a lot of miles to start with, i would start looking for an engine swap or rebuilt ka between now and 250K to be safe, but thats me. you cuold always just line up all the parts and prices and then wait for your current engine to quit before replacing it, but u dont wanna be stranded anywhere =)
