I'm about to do a new clutch job...some guy in town is gonna sell me a ACT kit for $200 the only downside is it doesn't come with an aftermarket flywheel...Is the performance of a lighter flywheel worth me buying or should i just resurface my oe flywheel..? Appreciate any help. thanks.

I think it is worth it. It makes the car feel peppier. Makes downshifting and revmatching more fun also. If you don't feel like spending the extra money, then don't. It makes a definately difference, but I could easily live without it.

I loved the 11lb that was on my KADE.

IMO It would be one of my first mods for a KA now. It just made the car a lot more rev happy and way more fun to drive.

Makes the motor rev a lot easier. I have a fidanza 11lb. flywheel with and unorthodox lightweight crank pully. Deff a noticable difference. Go for it if you have the cash.

I would say a fidanza (11LB) flywheel was one the the best mods for the money I made on my L/Z24 in my 510.

Personally I would only buy a flywheel from a very reputable company.Flywheels do come apart and they are right next to your feet when they doAsk Don garlits (who has half a right foot)

Stroker engines love lighter flywheels. Due to the large stroke of the KA it will rev happier and prevent heavy inertia from snapping off the snout of the crank at higher RPM (7000+ RPM). I've reved way passed the stock limit and my engine has over 180,000 miles on it, and it still takes a beating. GT3 guy's as well as auto X enthusiasts have loved using lighter flywheels. There proven to work and put torque to the wheels rather than a HP loss at the drive train.

NO way man your lucky not to throw a rod at 6700 RPM!!!!!! The KA's stroke is so long at 96mm that even brian crower redesigned a stroker at 91mm!!!!! The dwell time between 4 pistons causes a lot of dead lock, when you increase the piston momentum through the rpm range it becomes increasingly dangerous. This means the entire crank is going through crazy harmonics and torsional stress a lighter flywheel resolves some of that problem. I bet if you if you hold a 7000RPM redline for longer than 7seconds you will guaranteed throw a rod...I've been speaking with Chris the sales rep at AMS to alleviate this problem by manufacturing a fully counter weighed crank for the KA. It would allow for smoother harmonics and a much broader and smoother redline up to 7500RPM.

oh you can hold a sohc at 7000 for more then 7 seconds bro, trust me I have. The motor is **** now but not from the nasty rev limit bouncing burnouts/drifts.... AND YES I WAS TRYING TO DESTROY the engine..

Well maybe you can rev it for longer I wouldn't recommend it at all.

oh I'm with yah totaly on the de, moreso then the sohc for some reason. But then again my sohc didnt fall off so bad after 5500.? strangeness I started really beating the shyt out of it after I did a comp test... 160, 140,135,155 I had plans to rebuild it in feb. which were shut down due to a massive overheat the cluster didnt catch(I did at the first stop I made.. TOO late) I still may rebuild it though. But this dohc feels way stronger/fresher. but yeah the de rev limit I set is 6700,drops me perfect with my short shifter back into powerband.
