What? you have to take the head of to resurface either head or block. How else would you do it. And before you ask how to DIY, you can't. Take it to a shop to do it right.

I think he was asking how much material can safely be removed when resurfacing it.

Oooo. hmm not sure but a machine shop should be able to say. Youll also need a slightly thicker head gasket to compensate

as little as possible, you dont want to bump the cr and i would prefer not to use a thicker hg

First alms, read what the damn post said, and dont respond with some stupid ISH like that to get your thread post number up, if you dont have helpful info then dont respond. All i asked is what someone has had taken off. If you havent done this, or have absolutly no helpful information at all, then go figure out some other way to waste your time.
Second, when i posted this I already had the head off (and back from the machine shop) they took .015 off, just wanted to know what others have had.
Third, there was no mention of do it yourself, pay attention you lop.
Fourth, thanks for stating the obvious, did you think id be in the garage with some emory cloth?
Fifth, you irritate me.

Thank you super240, thats exactly what i was asking.
Ashibah83- i have a cometic three layer 1.5 mm gasket and a felpro paper gasket, why wouldnt you use the cometic?

im not saying i wouldnt use the metal hg, ive just had and heard too many problems with thicker and solid copper gaskets leaking badly and ive heard of a lot of people using the factory style graphite gasket with decent power (450) and no problems so to me that seems like the way to go

Does anyone else notice an increasing amount of stupid happening on NICO lately?

Whoa whoa there hoss, dont take offense there. First it would have been helpful to ask the question clearly because thats what it sounded like when I read it. You could have taken an extra 90 seconds and gave some background info about the motor, stock or boosted, and what kind of hg to use instead of asking how much to take off since you already did that. Second, you'd be surprised in the things people ask and try and get away with. In fact I have encountered people that have reused a head gasket then ask why its pouring coolant in the cylinders. Ive even heard people that just want sand it flat and use RTV to make the seal and s***. So, by the way you asked, it I could only assume the worst because it happens regularly.

To answer your question, the only advice I can give is that ashiba is right. I hear bad things about solid copper ones and mixed opinions about metal ones. I would just use an OEM style.
