Post

Objective: Pass CA Smog with 10.6:1 Compression And Anything Else I Can Add, Looking For 170-ish HP, 190-ish Ft/Lb

Current State: 237k on the clock, all-but bone stock, currently passing CA emissions w/ flying colors

Dilemma: CA emissions testing requires Visual, Functional (Mostly Evap), and Butt-Sniffing to be legit. No Turbos, bummer. No Meth, bummer. No EGR/Evap delete, no CAT delete, nothing delete, bummer. Check Engine light on? Fail, period. It all boils down to internals, and C.A.R.B. approved Headers/Intake, etc.

Bonus! Neighbor wrecked his '89 w/ 110k on the clock, I got a free motor to eff around with :naughty:

New Block: Bored + Honed to 89.5mm, Decked to match T-cover, Arias 10.6:1/89.5mm pistons installed

Brainstorm 2013: Cosworth 90mm head gasket w/ T-cover delete? Are DOHC intake valves usable and/or worth it? No knock sensor w/ SOHC? Would probably fail NOx I would imagine w/ high compression, so custom-tuned DOHC ECU w/ Knock sensor?

I know, I know. Why N/A? Well, I'm not looking to see how long the legs are on a SOHC KA, it's pointless. But it did perk my ears when I literally pulled a stump out of my yard when a 4wd QX4 couldn't

So here I sit; venturing off of the beaten path of boost, entering the realm of feet and pounds over the power of horses for the sake of many hippies. And, so I can actually USE the power for a daily driver, and pass smog in hippie-ville.

Any of you barometric-level brainiacs care to chime?

Much appreciated!

Oh yeah, I would post pics but I don't know how. That knowledge would also be appreciated, haha.

Thanks!

your main walls you'll hit, 1-NOx. the early production had a harder problem with nox due to the slightly higher compression. and cali is steadily cutting the limit. iirc right now its at alittle over 700ppm. i can double check. 2-timing. part of that functional is the base timing. so youll have to run it at stock.
let me know how its goin. can answer all the smog Qs you have
