so i tried starting my KA 510 for the first time today and everything seemed to work just fine minus it starting :) its not my first rodeo (ive checked all my basics)

i have spark and i have fuel pressure before the FPR. my questions ... can you have to much fuel pressure and would that cause it not to start?

this is the same setup i ran before i broke my last KA but i never checked the FP on that one and it worked just fine. (it broke on unrelated issues)

here is what i have for pressure....( i checked it 3 times )

im running an aftermarket external FP (bosch i believe) it was in the car when i got it. i can get pictures of it if need be.

obviously im probably going to have to get an adjustable FPR but why would my pressure be so high all of the sudden? stock is 35-45psi correct?

i was hoping to hear it run today so any help would be great.

Yes its very possible to shut down an injector with to much fuel pressure. ive never seen a stock regulator do that. Id run the return hose off of the fpr to a gas can and see if your fuel pressure gets better when you prime. Maybe a kinked return line? Ou r clogged?

the car does turn over... just no kick.

still checking for kinks but havent found anything yet

it just seems like the stock FPR is stuck or barley opening. everytime ive taken the return off there has been some fuel so i know some is getting past the FPR. i even have a 2nd fuel rail and injectors that i have tried and its the same thing.

How do i check to make sure the injectors are turning on?

Well when the key is on you pull the.dizzy and soon the gear and you should hear each injector fire. I'm sure that's nor the issue here though. 100 psi is the most that pump will pump anyways. You have a clog or something.

well i think im going to get an adjustable FPR... i checked everything for kinks and cloggs and the lines are clean. i didnt have any fuel coming out of the return line off of the rail when i stopped for the night. so i have fuel going to the rail but not coming out anymore.

ive tried 2 different FPR/Rail/Injector combos and they both did the same thing which confuses me. How could both be bad? am i just way off base?

the other idea i had is that the current FPR isnt getting enough vacume to open.... is this possible?

This is why I say you have a clogg or something. You're not going to have the same exact problem with 2 different fprs. plus when you prime the fuel pump and only a little fuel comes out of the fpr .... That's normal. Can you blow through the return line? You should be able to pretty easily with the line disconnected from the fpr. Also your car is a 72 so I assume the car was carbureted before which equals no return line..... How is the return line set up for the fuel injection? I say run the exit of you're fpr to a bucket (not the vehicle) for testing to see if your fuel pressure is normal without the line that goes back to the tank. Do that and report back.

after much though i came to the conclusion that i maybe had the Feed and return lines switched around....... and i did. switched them around and it fired right up for the first time in 2 1/2 years :)

i feel pretty dumb about the situation but i thought the lines were correct because of my logic and my logic was wrong..... in a way i did have a clog it was just the valve on the fpr that was stopping everything.

thanks guys for the help its nice to get responses to problems, although this was totally my fault and not a problem with the car.
