unhook the wire silly.

seriously. make sure the car is not in gear. crank it over a sec then try again it just might be under a little bit of pressure. from the gears in there. you shouldnt need any prying tool to get it off simply rotate back and forth while pulling on it.

i took the plug out before the pictures....thats not the thing holding the distributor in. Its something thats on the inside. No idea....

Yea i'm overdue on an oil change. But nonetheless, i took the cover off and was like WTF myself. I seafoamed it before the last oil change. :-\

its auto :-\ but i put it in neutral...same thing. Rocking it while pulling it...tried it to no avail.

you know whats the worst problem tho...when putting it back together (because its my DD i had to) the bottom bolt in the distributor broke inside the distributor/front cover. Hasnt been the best day for me. Then i cranked it and it still rattled. Its def that front guide....

If it wasnt my DD i'd take the head off. I might get another head, clean it up then bolt it on during spring break. =D

this is what distributor looks like when it is pulled out. there are two 10 mm bolts to remove with 10mm socket wrench. dont use a screw driver.

the dist rotates as you remove it. mark position of rotor after you pull out. dont move the rotor while distributor is out.

look up timing and distributor in tutorial link in my signature. something tells me you are going to have a difficult time getting the timing right.

omg thank you sir...i was looking at factory manuals to try to get some information, i wanted to see what it would look like out of the head. does it have to be cranked to a certain position for it to come out. I had it at TDC...maybe i was a few degrees off.

i dont think so. you just need to twist slightly. dont force it out . push it back in and twist a bit in each direction. nothing holds it in.

its weird man, you say nothing holds it but mine is like the biggest b*tch in the world...took me half hr just to break the seal from the head. Then it was sitting there. It was able to rotate about 40* but didnt come out.

push it back in and try rotating in either direction.

Just hand tighten these bolts and not much more torque after that. they strip easily in aluminum.

when replacing front upper cover, make sure every bolt goes in easy before tightening. move plate around rather than forcing bolts in. as you remove bolts , store them in holes in cardboard so you remember which bolt goes where.

the gears mesh. as you pull out , the gears rotates a bit. you have jammed the gears by forcing it out so gently push it back in. maybe twist a bit or jiggle to get it back in. and then rotate a bit as you pull.

i hope i didnt damage the gear by forcing it. i see how it works now thanks for your help. I'll try to take everything back apart this week, but i have a bolt that broke off in the front plate/distributor. I'm going to have to do somethin about that...might take it somewhere just to get that bolt out.

pour some penetrating oil on it. drill a hole in the remaining part of bolt. the drilling will break the rust bond. they have special bits that will dig into the bolt remnant and pull it out

if you destroy the hole, then:http://www.roadstarmagazine.co...d=233

drilling holes in the bolt would be easier if the KA was out of the car. Its goin to be hard to get a good view on the bolt, but I guess anything is possible, I'll try it one of these days.

That is a pretty nasty top end.Try cleaning it up a bit and pouring some clean oil over it before you finish.

Maybe switching to synthetic will clean things up.
