I've had about enough of searching lol. Many posts on here say that you can use a KA distributor on a SR20DET.

Well, I bought a DOHC KA24DE distributor (External Coil Type), and tried to put it in my SR20DET... No go... Am I using the wrong distributor?

It won't go pass this part

And notice how far it would stick in :S Could this be a SOHC Distributor?

Should I be using a different distributor?

thanks

First time I ever read you could even possibly do that.

not sure it has been doen before with KA parts. I know the FWD bluebird SR have a distributor setup and possibly the N/A SRs. I believe there are a few more problems you will run into too.

Why would you switch to a distributor anyways?

I currently have a Stand Alone MSD ignition system that does now allow for boost retard. I also have the Holley Commander 950 EMS that doesn't allow for multiple coil input.

I want to get rid of the current MSD setup and run a single point ignition system

Any other ideas?

You must use a SR20 distributor.

Difference between SR and KA dist is just that the shaft on the KA is thicker than the SR distributor....other than that they are both the same preety much.

I suppose if thats teh only reason why you cant use a KA dist. One way i can think is to make the hole bigger same thing they do with Throtle bodies when they board them out. I would be extremely carefuil with this cause you can mess up it up and would have to get a new head.

Just try searchng for a SR20 Dist, i hear they are price though.....

^^^ I thought about boring the hole, but that wouldn't work, cause not only the shaft is thicket but also longer on the KA. The SR one would be the same shaft as the CAS.

I've been looking for an SR20DE RWD Distributor for a couple days now, and i can't find it anywhere.

I wish i knew someone in Japan, cause then it would be super easy

lol. I went to a local shop that imports motors, and they had a RWD SR20DE motor, and while trying to pull the distributor, they busted it.

BOO. I'm going to see if they can get me another. But I need it ASAP

they are preety rare. I can see if anyone around here have one. But they are pricey cause everyone that has one knows what tey have......

Thanks Paul.

They were going to charge me 150 Canadian

I was able to find one from a shop that imports JDM parts, and they're only charging 110 shipped from Japan.

So we'll see

I'll update once it's done

Have you thought of mounting a trigger wheel to your crank pully. It has been done with great results.

^^ actually, I have a trigger wheel on right now with two pickups for my current MSD stand alone. I'm hoping to use thse two in conjuction with a distributor... I still need a distributor to turn and fire the plugs.

I would use the stock ignition parts, but don't have those either! lol
