in the beginning there was water, and it was in the radiator. and dad said, let there be none. so he took it on the interstate with the radiator cap off to "boil out all of the water so i can put antifreeze in it". then, dad called me from chevron and told me to come get him. she`s been towed home, and she`s got an empty radiator. she`ll crank fine but wont turn over, strangely, if iBlip the gas as im cranking, there`ll be a big bump as iPush the pedal, and the oil light goes of and comes back on. when iTold him this, he said the chain might`ve snapped, since it`s what powers the oil pump. no funny sounds involved, at all.

and iAm confused, and it is not good.

Why would anyone do this to their car? I would tell your dad he owes you a new engine. He probably warped the head all to **** for running it with no coolant. Why would he not just flush the cooling system, and then fill the radiator with non-dilluted antifreeze? This way the water left in the rest of the cooling system mixes with it to get about a 50/50 mix. Then just bleed/refill as necessary.

Start pulling the engine apart. Take off the valve cover, and upper timing cover. Take a picture of it with it off if you have a digital camera.

will do, thanks already, and he has said if it`s to do with the timing chain he`d rather just buy a new engine... unfortunately he`ll insist on gettin another usdm oem powerplant if it ends up like that.

check your spark with a timing gun, your fuel pressure with a gauge, your injectors (sev. ways to do this, easiest is to pull spark plugs and look down the hole when you crank)and compression. But yeah if you suspect timing chain pull the valve cover and take a peak, thats easy to do and if it its the timing chain and you crank it its gonna damage it... but its probably already damaged.

do a cranking compression test first that will tell u if its a warped head or if its a timing issue.

no, pull the valvecover first to see if the timing chain is broken.and then, as I already suggested, do a compression test.
