at first it started but the idle would fluctuate from around 1000 to 350 then just shut off. id try to give it gas to but it wouldnt rev, it would just die. After trying for a whil it wouldnt even start. battery has proper voltage, plugs are clean. the distributor was replaced about 12k miles ago but something couldve gone wrong there, could it be timing? the motor turns so i guess its getting spark and fuel, so could the maf be screwed up? kinda frustrated please help?!?!

motor turns only if there is power to the starter motor. This does not tell you if your are getting fuel or spark. Please check your motor for both.

Pull ur plugs 1 at a time and check for spark. If not check distributor and ignition coil. If everything looks good and you have spark and fuel im thinking its timing.

I jumped timing when i missed a gear about 3 weeks ago and stalled out. Pulled the engine apart and had 4 bent valves, dents in every one of my pistons, and a whole lotta headache.

Hope this helps.

Possibly a bad fuel pump as well, gets just enough fuel to start a few times then dies, barely trickles..instead of a steady stream. Pull off hose off fuel filter have some crank just a little see if fuel comes out,trickles..bad pump..If its good the you eliminated fuel.
