well i bought a 95 zenki for 300 with a blown motor. the person before me broke the radiator and it overheated the engine so bad that the spark plugs were melted in the head and the knock sensor plastic was almost completely melted off of it. the engine was making no compression

so i tore the engine apart in the car and found that the ring lands on every piston were broken. there wasnt any scaring in the cylinders so i decided to do a cheap rebuild.. i ordered pistons, rings, rod bearings, and a CHEAP top end gasket kit. i honed the cylinders with a dingle ball hone and polished the pistons (planning on going turbo soon) and put a different good head on it that was already machined and slightly ported. i spent under 300 bucks on the under hood stuff including the oil, filter, and radiator.

the car runs flawlessly has 190psi in every cylinder and i got 32.4 mpg with it which i was amazed by. im very stoked about the whole deal to have a perfect running s14 for under 600

just thought i would share with you guys. oh and the body is not that bad either!!!

well the head i already had and i ported it a couple years ago just never used it. i got the rod bearings at a local parts store for like 33 bucks, the pistons from ebay for 70, the rings on ebay for like 40. and the knock sensor on ebay for like 20 brand new oem nissan. as for the plugs i reused the old ones. they looked to be pretty recent. i gapped them with my knife lol. the plug wires i had laying around from and old part out. i just need to put new boots on them by the dizzy. oh and the top end gasket kit i just got off of ebay also for like 23 and the head gasket and upper intake gasket was all i used. also the valve cover gaskets didnt fit. i was a really really cheap kit. could have just gotten the head gasket, i already had the intake one.

i wish i hadnt ordered stuff separately the piston/ring/rod bearing kits are only like 115. i could have saved a little more money but i bought some stuff before i tore it down all the way. im going to post a few pics tonight.

when you say dingle ball hone I am assuming you are saying that it is something like a flexhone?

so, how reliable are these parts, im thinking of doing exactly what u did to my motor, i will only need it to run for spring and summer but i drive hard and i will be drifting with it so it will be put up to some abuse. can u get a link to the parts u used for me?

umm i dont know how reliable they are. i have about 4000 miles on them and they seem to be holding strong. engine is not smoking at all runs great. i drive hard too so im pretty impressed about the parts, plus i turbo'd it and it is still holding up even with my ebay parts. i dont know how much drifting you will be able to do NA.... good luck though

here is the gasket set. i only used the head gasket, upper intake gasket, and the exhaust gaskets. the valve cover gasket didnt fit.... it seamed that the middle one on the valve cover was for a s13 and the outer one was just all sloppy in there.

good luck

Im am wanting to rebuild a ka24de because the last two I bought (used) ended up developing rod knock within the first 5000 miles......

I am looking into getting the 115 kit from ebay with the head gasket kit you linked.

Just wanted to ask a few questions. When you said you polished the pistons, just to make them look nice or what am I missing?

also, the pistons seem to be ok quality... I take it they are still holding up pretty well? would you recommend?

Im really just looking into rebuilding my engine for DD and maybe a turbo down the line. I only plan on making less than 300 hp either way.... so im not really looking into going all out with the rebuild. most expensive part of my rebuild so far would be the dang rods.... enjuku eagle rods for 299.

Yes the engine is holding up great. I polished the pistons for Less carbon buildup, for turbo mainly, less heat.

It should be perfect for dd. I have about 5000 miles on this rebuild with no problems. And it's all in your tuning when you turbo.

Good luck
