something that I'v kinda wondered....the KA and the CA are very similar, I'v wondered if the KA is just a CA with larger bore? or stroke and or deck height? I know they both came with the NAP-Z head at some pointthe CA's seem to be from 1.6-2.0 and the KA's seem to be from 2.2-2.4I'v delt with the old CA's and the NAP-Z heads years ago and never really messed with the KA, so I don't have much to compare it with, just something I've wondered, anyone know ?

And CA's are just RB's with two less cylinders with different bore and stroke ratios...

You can pick out similarities between alot of engines.

Its not a mini RB and its not a KA, it just share similarities because they were designed in the same era.

They're not identical, but similar. The CA was kind of the test bed for the rest of them as it's basically the oldest, but they were all pretty close in the time that they were designed.

Dont forget the VG series. The CA shares some VG characteristics also and the VG is older.

nope, the KA is actually related to the old *** L series motors. infact you can bolt a KA head onto an L or Z series block. the CA is a different animal all together. It has smaller bore centers and is smaller in over all size than a KA. maximum bore in a KA is like, 91MM maximum on a CA is like 86mm I think. not to mentiuon the chain vs. belt timing stuff and a whole host of other things

VG's and CA's have exactly the same hydraulic valve lifters, same part number.

The KA and the CA are totally different! No comparision. The guys are right about the RBs and VGs, but nothing doing with the KAs and SRs and Ls.

I just thought there might be a connection with the apparent displacement cutoff of the ca's being where the KA's pick up

what CA are you thinking of that used a chain? the old CA18ET (US 200sx) used a belt, as did the CA20E that came in the sentra... i think you're confused.

1982 nissan stanza, first vehicle in the us to be Nissan only badge, had a CA20 which I recall having a chain, I just got my old FSM and sure enough it was a belt, guess the years have a way of fooling us old datsun geeks, and the 200sx N/A of similar vintage had the same CA20

the nap-Z head found on the early CA's didn't use lifters, it was a pretty simple clean design

No chains on the CA series period.
