First off i was unable to find a thread that had a problem like thisI just picked up a new 95 240sx SE, the car smokes when you give it gas not at idle, I can't really figure this one out, I was thinking that i had a bad ring, but i went and checked all my plugs and the car was running very lean. The motor seems to preform fine, I can't tell yet if I'm losing gas mileage, seeing that it is a totally different car than my last 240. none of the plug showed any sign of oil leaking into the cylinder. At first, because the smoke seemed a little white i thought it could be the headgasket but there is some blue to the smoke and i check the water and it is perfect both level and color. Any one have any ideas?

I Will try and go get a compression check and see if any of the cylinders are way off, the leaning out i figured may be eather the wrong plugs are in the car since i just got it, or maybe the fuel pump/ fuel filter.

Sounds like you have got the same problem ive got .After it sits there and idles for a minute or two it will puff a little blue smoke out .It is probably the valve stem seals or valve guides.

Check your timing on the lean issue. That was the problem with my 96'... As for the light smoke, it is probably blow-bye through a ring somewhere. That didn't show up on my plugs either... That was when it was time to switch to an SR...

My car has not had any signs of oil on the plugs other than some light ash.I like the SR idea!

Yea, i was thinking it was probably blow by, Hard to tell for sure, i was going to try the valve guides but i would not think that it would cause smoke once the car is at speed, i had a friend follow me and he said it smoked mostly when i shifted, i know there is a test where they pressurize the cylinder to see if it leaks, I'm going to talk to my mechanic and see what we have at work. Going to compression test also, i think the smoke not being very blue may be caused by the thing running so lean, fuel pump seems to be okay but it is probably a timing isue.

Too bad it's not like my last 95 where it was just a top-end

Also tonight i just had a check engine light come on, i have yet to be able to get a code reader on it i am hoping that maybe it is just a bad O2 sensor since that seems to be a common problem with the KA motor
