i wasnt awhere that they made torque plates of auto engines. i dont think they do. normally a torque plate is used when the block and cylinders are seperate parts like on a old VW or H-D harley davidson thats the only place ive ever used them and only time i know of you needin them any way as far as 40 being to far over i would say you will be fine. i wouldnt go much bigger. 60 or 80 over is definately our max. before cylinder wall become to thin.

ive never heard a ka bore'd 40 over

in my opinion thats pushing it

just going 20 over is fine and plus, i see a lot of different pistons with different compressions that offer stock bore and .020 bore as well

and if your going ka-t, 20 over is plenty

but im not an expert, but that is just my 2 cents

Mine was done .040 over. It's not too much, but I wouldn't go beyond that. At all.

And there are torque plates for nearly every engine imagineable... Steer clear of a machine shop that says otherwise.

Mine was "borrowed" and shipped in from CA by the machine shop that did my KA.

my specialty. boring ka blocks...1. Boring a block you do not use torque plates... they are strictly for honing and honing only because most boring bars square off the oil pan rails and rest on the deck surface... any warpage can produce bad cylinder roundness..2. .020 over is not by any means "pushing it" I bored my '90 block .060 over and tested it with a sonic tester (used to test the thickness of cylinders) and i still had 1/4 in. on all sides sometimes more...

3. Ive done both. honed with a torque plate and without. Through my reserch and i have come up with was... The distortion caused by the clamping force of head bolts on ka24 blocks is slim to none... i found .0005 in. distortion throughout the bore on #1 and #4 cylinders. and considering piston to wall clearance is atleast .001in. its all errelevant.

i hope this helps you I am going to school for high performance engine machining so we cover allot of this in our study.

Also Wiseco makes .060 over pistons part number K586M905 for those on here who want to make a 2.5 liter haha
